Cyrdian Army

The Cyrdian army is one of the largest and most powerful, and certainly the most experienced, fighting forces in the world. Commanded by a set of proven undead leaders with centuries to perfect their craft, and recruited from a huge imperial population, its military might is an imposing presence to nearby nations.

Structure

Ranks

The forces of the army are given ranks corresponding to their level of authority. Some members with unique roles are given ranks other than the ones that follow. Most officers ranked higher than a Captain are undead.

Soldiers are the lowest-ranked members of the army, the rank-and-file who make up the majority of the Empire's forces.

Warriors are soldiers who've shown prowess and leadership in battle or training. They lead small groups of soldiers into battle, and are responsible for making split second decisions in response to the changing landscape of the battlefield.

Captains are field leaders in charge of deciding the tactics of the squads under their command as a battle commences.

Marshals are the highest-ranking officers that actively engage in battles. They decide the objectives of their troops and make large-scale strategic decisions such as whether to retreat or hold.

Warlords command large groups of men, often all the Cyrdian forces in a battle. They don't enter the field, but decide the major strategies of the men under their command for entire battles.

Generals decide troop movement and nation-scale strategies for large segments of the army. They are often far from battles, as they manage multiple large forces at different fronts simultaneously.

The High Commander is the leader of the entire army, and is subservient only to Emperor Cyrdin himself. The current High Commander, Amuli Funatus, has held the position for centuries.

Units

Groupings of soldiers are organized by size, and fall into the following categories. Special forces groups fall outside of this categorization.

Squads, also called parties or warbands, typically consist of 3-5 soldiers, though they can have more. Squads are usually formed from new recruits and kept together for as long as possible. This ensures they work together well without interfering with each other. During battles, new squads are often pulled together from the surviving members of other squads. Squads are commanded by a Warrior.

Troops are made up of between 2 and 10 squads, or 10-50 soldiers. They usually have a close connection, though not as tight as a squad's. Troops are commanded by a Captain.

Companies are made up of 2-10 troops, and 100-500 soldiers. Soldiers from different troops but the same company often know each other, but also often don't. This is often the largest unit that any individual soldier will strongly identify with. Companies are commanded by a Marshal.

Battalions are made up of 2-10 companies, or 1,000-5,000 soldiers. They are commanded by a Warlord.

Brigades are made up of 2-10 battalions, or 10,000-50,000 soldiers. They are commanded by a General.

The army consists of all the forces in the Cyrdian military. It is commanded by the High Commander.

Culture

The Cyrdian Army is large and professional, something which its members take great pride in. Most of the soldiers revel in opportunities to test themselves in battle. The army is the main enforcer of Cyrdia's expansionism, and so many believe in Cyrdian superiority over other people, having enlisted for that very reason.

Assets

The Cyrdian army consists of over 500,000 troops, and have a mix of martial and magical prowess, giving the army great versatility in battle. It also has a variety of novel equipment and strategies, the most important being firearms. Since they were introduced, and improvements began to be made to the original ineffective models, guns have become a major part of the army's arsenal.
