Chizhou (Chee-zjao)

Chizhou is the capital of the country of Xeblisau, and one of the oldest cities on the continent, having been continuously occupied for more than two thousand years - making it one of the most densely populated cities as well.   Though once a relatively flat area, construction over the centuries has turned the city into something of a tiered hill as taller and taller buildings were constructed and built over. Deep below them are the famed catacombs, the Court of the Sanctified Chain.

Demographics

The people of Chizhou are generally humans of Sauvian descent. The people of Chizhou tend to be very welcoming of foreigners and new cultures, and the city tends to be quite diverse thanks to that.   The long term inhabitants of Chizhou tend to be wealthy, with many merchants and families having called it their home for generations. Most of the great houses of Xeblisau have a significant presence in the city. Many try to travel to the city to make a name for themselves, but new work tends to be difficult to find. Poverty is generally rare, with most leaving to find an easier life on the fertile countryside surrounding the city.
