Described in Magic on Earth: Ancient of Days, it says that The Sacred Flame of Ancient Power Comet is an ancient, primordial source of power of all Magic (Earth, Mystic Isles, and Auradon) inside the planet as it's mystical core. It is possible other planets have a system of magic similar to Earth although this is unknown.
Earth received what is thought to be the first known comet many eons ago. All of them are sent from the Ever-Wellspring Mystic Realm where the Gods and the Eight Mystical Elders reside.
There are other comets that have smashed or will smash other realms, including Auradon.
