Cooling Unit

A cooling unit is an assistive device assigned to Stenza when they venture into environments where otherwise maintaining body temperature will be difficult or metabolically taxing. It is standard issue for almost all members of a clan's military, as well as for pups and young children.   It should be noted, however, that very rarely are cooling units designed to operate in incredibly hot desert environments. Travel to such locations is, therefore, limited to local night hours.

Mechanics & Inner Workings

The cooling unit contains two simultaneously-running systems, one which uses synthetic refrigerants to reduce heat from the outside environment, and another which ventilates heat which can accumulate under the Battle Armor that a cooling unit is frequently attached to. Several variants of the cooling unit focus on different systems; for example, cooling units manufactured for pups focus more on reducing heat from the environment, providing more cooling. Adults, on the other hand, are better at internal body temperature regulation, and except for rare cases can rely more on ventilation or keeping to local night hours.   Unlike other items in the Stenza arsenal meant to operate offworld, the cooling unit is powered by a cell, a small crystal containing energy gathered from The Wind Fields which can last for several years without a recharge.

I love that they have limitations, like they're not really used for hot desert climates during the day time. That makes them feel a lot more real. :D

Thanks :D I figure not everything should work optimally all the time in all conditions. (Plus it gives some grounds for drama. What do you do when the sun's about to come up and you're a Stenza trapped in a desert?)
