Faircaster

Faircaster is a town east of Yonara, close by the Northernmost Edge of the Vasu'Roba canyon. It's a town divided by a river, but the majority of the populace lives in the small towns below the river.   The city consists of 5 distinct areas:
  • Upper Town, where people live north of the River.
  • Lower Town, where people live closer to the southernmost tip of the town.
  • The Rice Fields, where the majority of the areas grain is grown.
  • Old Faircaster, an overgrown area where the swamplands overtook the old houses.
  • Faircaster Lake: The largest body of clear water, where most fishing goes.

Demographics

Human (79%), Halfling (9%), Elf (5%), Dwarf (3%), Gnome (2%), Half-Elf (1%), Half-Orc (1%)

Government

Faircaster is currently lacking a Mayor. The town is currently in between the process of getting a new one.   The town is currently under the control of a pack of Werecreatures, and is not currently under a societal mandate.

Defences

Local law enforcement comprised of an ex-veteran and a few legionaires hired from Balthazar's Legion. These people were killed by Los Canteros and his band of Lycanthropes.    After the Faircaster Uprising, Ursula maintains the town guard by training those who defected from Los Canteros, with Asano and Carson's guidance.

Industry & Trade

Fish, hearty vegetables, and grain are the main exports. The heavy water supply makes this one of the few places suitable for rice and grain making.   Some adventurers and explorers go into the swamplands to the south to find rare and exotic things.

Infrastructure

The town is known for its fishing, being by a major lake that actually contains a bevy of freshwater fish. It is also nearby a swamp, which allows for some lumber and clay to be manufactured.
Main products include rice, fishing, coal, and sugar cane.   The town was once home to a vibrant dwarf population but they have since emigrated due to a dispute with the former Mayor and the Dusk Mage Church.

Guilds and Factions

The Mayor, Carson Harloff, is a member of the Occulo Society. He does not broadcast this fact and would rather it remain a secret.    Though not officially sanctioned by the Zygallic Church, Ursula Asheton preaches the Dusk Mage's teachings every Arsday. She preaches at the Temple Library.   Lennard, Edgelina, and Wymar are former apprentices of the Mastersmiths, with a working Masterforge. They are not allowed to use it, by the rules dictated by the Mastersmiths, however they have been known to work with people under the right circumstances (see Malopher O'Lak.)

Tourism

Some people come to Faircaster hoping to find some delicacy living in the swamps. Others used to come due to the vibrant smithing culture but that has since disappeared.

Architecture

It is one of the few places where the majority houses are made from wood. This is because the swampland to the south is full of trees that were once hewn and molded together in the Aurumo style.

Geography

Just north of the Vasu'Roba canyon's nothernmost tip, the city of Faircaster is home to a great deal of fishermen and farmers who make great strides in taming the local population.   Further south is the Venemo Swamp, which is considered one of the north most areas in the Vasu’Roba canyon.

Natural Resources

The nearby lake and Voyager river provide a great deal of land and support. The ground is fertile and easy to farm on. An Akacheta clan once lived there but have since moved on.   The Venemo Swamp have a great deal of methane gasses and absorb most of the silt ands runoff that would otherwise poison the waters used in the town.
