Session 91: Filling the Dance Cards
General Summary
The party reconvened at their villa to ready for the Autumn Canopy Dance.
Aisling found a private location to message her mother, over her 3-G Sending Stone. She informed her mother about the warning she had regarding the Queen of Elphame's interest in her. Her mother replied that Aurielle was looking out for her and that she trusted her daughter.
When Aisling returned to her room, she noticed that Mirror Moppet, the spider lent to her from the Fractured Princess, had spun a web within its terrarium. Within the webbing, a message formed of strands of web was visible, reading "Aisling has 2 eyes." Mirror Moppet was hanging small beads of colored glass on the web, decorating it to appear like stained glass, though Aisling did not know where the spider got the beads from. As Aisling entered, the spider tapped a leg on the glass as it looked at her, seeming to motion for her to spin around. Aisling spun around and the spider went back to its web and started to pull down the number 2 from its message.
The party then decided to cover up as many of the reflective surfaces as they could around the villa.
Tove Gundarsson approached Levi, and said that while he was talking to some of the other servants at the dinner, it was pointed out to him that Narahm was, in fact, the Great Leviathan. Repeating that the Great Leviathan destroyed Tove's fleet of ships, Levi realized that the Leviathan had not destroyed a Northlander fleet in centuries. The tattoo marking on Tove's face was from one of the original clans that settled on the Moontide Isles. Levi realized that Tove had been in The Feywild for centuries, not the months that Tove had assumed he was here for. When Levi mentioned the Oleander Throne, Tove had no idea who they were, further confirming that his shipwreck was centuries ago. To help him adjust to this knowledge, Levi and Bolvaic had a few drinks with Tove.
The party updated one another with everything they had learned at the dinner. Ensuring that one of the mirrors was uncovered, Aisling staged a scene with Violet Faeheart, disparaging Illevaere, furthering their ruse that the pair are at odds with one another.
As the party arrived at the Autumn Canopy Ball, Sylas Staghollow asked to announce Bolvaic, standing on a soapbox to call out to everyone Bolvaic's accomplishments, challenging the bold and brave to add their names to his dance card.
The Goblin King was quick to approach Levi, asking why he didn't maul people to aid in the distraction at the dinner. Levi pointed out that he had--he tapped different people with the maul throughout the night. The Goblin King was delighted at the display of sneakery, and even though they did not abscond with the Golden Apple, they did get away with a butternut squash, so it was still a win. The Goblin King was also happy that the statement that the "fierce interum Goblin Bear of the Goblin Court had stalked unaware ArchFey and mauled them before they even had a chance to respond" was, technically, a wholly true boast. He immediately called to Cobb to make the announcement, though he still referred to Ilbryen as Cobb, but Ilbryen had Cobb trumpet and make the announcement instead, though the Goblin King was not pleased with the outsourcing of heralding displayed by Ilbryen.
As Eldring Thunderstrike arrived, lightning flashed and thunder echoed out, eliciting a chuckle from the Beautiful Fae Top Emissary of the Stag King. Eldring stormed over and the two exchanged barbed words, though the Emissary told Eldring to put him on her dance card for the final dance--something that Eldring refused until the Emissary reminded her how much her father would hate it, so she put him on her dance card.
It was then determined that the Emissary had been displaying less "top energy" and was more of a "bratty bottom".
As guests arrived and mingled, Dhó approached Bolvaic to ask for a place on his dance card, to which he agreed. After accepting the position on the card, Bolvaic immediately went to the Ashen Lady and asked to partner with her for the final dance. The Ashen Lady agreed, striking Smolder's name from that place on her card.
Levi went to Caelum Thunderstrike, asking for a place on his dance card, which he agreed to. Immediately after, Levi went to the Iron Swan to ask for her a dance. Unimpressed with Levi, she said that her card was filled, but she would have her squire, Anwyn Brookmist, to dance in her place and she was given a spot on his card. Levi immediately readied to leave to ask the Frost Prince, stating as much when he departed and he caught a glimpse of insecurity in the Iron Swan's eye--it seemed evident that she had feelings for the Frost Prince, but her insecurity demonstrated that she did not know if feelings were returned--or if any were felt at all.
Levi approached the Frost Prince, first asking Sneachda's permission to approach and speak to "her prince". This gesture pleased Sneachda who stepped aside to allow Levi to speak to the prince. Levi asked the prince for a dance, and Sneachda helped his plea by pointing out to the prince that his card was still empty. The Frost Prince accepted the invitation to dance and the Iron Swan watched in the distance as Levi added his name to the Prince's card.
Blue approached Aisling, stating that the Starborn Lady believes it would be unseemly to be seen dancing with a mortal, so has asked her to dance with Aisling in her stead. Aisling agreed and added Blue to her card. Quinn Leeds then approached Aisling, telling her that the Queen of Elphame wanted the first dance with Aisling and to put it on her card.
Aisling then approach Myohn to ask him for a dance, to which he agreed. In return, Myohn asked Aisling if she would place the Swan Queen on her dance card for the final dance, to which Aisling agreed. Finally, Aisling approached the Barbed Countess, apologizing for not coming to see her sooner to dance before her, but instead offered to join her in a dance at the ball. The Countess stated that she would give her a dance, but in exchange, Aisling would wear a bracelet of hers--one made of thorns, but would tighten each time Aisling laughed. The Countess stated that it would be incentive for Aisling to visit her villa sooner. The Countess told Aisling that she would give her the bracelet during their dance, though, if she preferred, she could give her a thorned choker that had the same effect. Aisling agreed to the terms and put the Countess of her dance card.
Arsa approached Ilbryen and asked to be on their dance card, stating that he would not be as spry of a dancer as he would have been earlier in the day, but he would be far less likely to grind up against them. Ilbryen agreed and then asked Dan the Goblin to be their first dance. Ilbryen approached Minet Reed, who seemed to know exactly why Ilbryen was approaching and told them to place him on their seventh and eighth dance slot. Finally, Hyrsam approached Ilbryen and said that while he enjoyed their toast promoting unions, it is only a shield for the proletariat--those who do not work are still ripe to be exploited. He said that the shield a union offers is a temporary protection, real progress could not be obtained until the systems are smashed down and removed. Ilbryen said that they had some common ideas and Hyrsam said not to put his name on their dance card, rather he'll just find a time to step in and dance with them.
Illevaere was surprised to have Smolder seek them out immediately, asking to be put onto their dance card, stating that he was moved by her tribute to Caena at the dinner, and Illevaere agreed to give him a slot on their card. They then approached Squamulose, who informed them that Psilofyr had awakened and that they should come to the villa to speak to them soon. Illevaere asked Squamulose if she would be their partner for the first dance--an offer that surprised Squamulose, but she accepted, at first believing that it was simply a tactic to show unity between their courts, but then realizing that there was more behind the offer. Illevaere then approached Gloni, stating their similar beliefs with poison were of interested and asking them for a dance, and they agreed.
Illevaere approached the Emissary of the Stag King, whom they refer to as the Scary Crush Emissary, and asked if they were expected to dance, which the Emissary replied that he had not expected to be invited to. He then agreed to be Illevaere's final dance partner for the evening and stated that they would leave the rest of their dance card empty to make it a stronger point in dancing with them, leaving Illevaere visibly awed.
Stormspeaker Era approached Illevaere, being discrete but stating that she wanted to talk to them and asked to do so either in a dance, or during a dance in private. Illevaere agreed and added her to their card.
General-Headquarters-Hindquarters-Gives-Orders-Front-and-Rear-Sergeant-Billygoat-Legs approached Bolvaic, who had sobered up and turned down his offer to either dance or "dance". However, he pointed him toward Tertius stating that he might be interested. Bolvaic then approached Dökkálfar and asked her to dance, though in a rather insulting way--stating that she wouldn't know what she was missing out on, and that it is brave people who would accept to try something new. Despite the approach, Dökkálfar accepted Bolvaic's invitation to dance.
He then approached the Barbed Countess, who was icy in her reception to him. Bolvaic made a reference to the slaying of her Thorned Knight, stating that he knew that they got off on the wrong foot and offering to allow it to be water under the bridge and asking her for a dance. The Countess pushed back and said that he took the weapon of her heart's hand and that she can hear the last heartbeat of her champion every time the bowstring has been drawn. She then told Bolvaic that she will take the one thing that he cannot draw again: his last breath. Bolvaic said that he enjoyed killing the knight and walked away from teh Countess.
Levi turned from the Frost Prince and almost stumbled over the Fractured Princess. She told him that ever since she took all of the stuffing out of her teddy bear, the rest of her dollies have been scared of the monster in the shadows of her room. She said that maybe a real bear could help keep them safe. She asked for a dance, and Levi agreed.
Vasilisa approached Levi and said that she had been talking to Tertius and that his connections to him means that the hags have just as much of hold on him. She asked Levi for a dance, but he only had the final dance slot open, but her final slot was already filled. She then invited him to visit her villa.
Levi spoke to Tertius, who had the final dance slot with Vasilsa. Levi wanted to know what he knew of Vasilisa and Tertius stated that she had been mortal, but ended up ruling her kingdom through interactions of hags. Levi then said that was how he also gained power and asked if it was really Vasilisa and really Tertius who was ruling their fiefdoms, or if it was really the hags. Tertius offered to switch the last dance so that Vasilisa could dance with Levi and Levi wouldn't have to go to her villa, but Tertius reassured him that the villa wasn't that bad and that the people there were nice. Levi agreed to go to her villa instead and for Tertius to keep the final dance as it was.
