The Oriental Bazaar

People sometimes call it the sleepless maze, does it makes it a bit obvious?The Oriental Bazar, Sleepless Maze or also Curiosity Avenues is the largest commercial district in Nelandra. It stretches on 400 square meters around the eastern gate of the capital that leads to the road to Irisport. Shortly after the commercial rush began when Humans arrived at Irisport for the first time, all the shops that were located on the western side of Nelandra quickly bought parcels on the eastern side to get the closer they could to the road leading to the desert. Caravans carrying goods from overseas for the capital stop at the caravanserai just outside the gates, and carries take shipments to each shop. Being located just next to the entrance isn't just a practical choice to reduce the distance carriers have to walk in the city, but also a chance to appeal travelers coming from or going to Irisport to stop by and buy wares before leaving. Business went so good that parcels had to be split into smaller ones, leading to the maze we know today. The whole place is a vast entanglement of small alleys filled with all kind of shops, from clothing to jewels and weaponry. Foreigners are often confused when they hear that the Bazaar is also called Sleepless Maze. They often tend to underestimate Gérouns' passion for the unknown and thus overseas goods. Caravans arrive by day and by night, and some products are so rare and widespread that they get sold out in hours after they hit the stores. Each piece of road is always crowded, even if the agitation calms down during the night, and taverns constantly have customers. When Nelandreans really want something that is imported, they will usually get the estimated delivery date and wait day and night on a nearby tavern when the time comes. Unlike many Humans think when they see the relative calm around Irisport, the curiosity rush for foreign goods is far from over in the rest of the continent.
