Session 038 - Taking the fight to the Enemy

General Summary

Date 26th of Ilvin (10) to the 5th of Navek (11) 720TR (Winter)

The story so far

The Church of Naveh is planning to summon the Greater Gytevsha Krasula on the night of Shadowmath, in just over a month, which will bring devastation to the City of Coranan. The heroes plan to intervene and after some investigation has identified several Priest/Assassin's living in the city.

Meanwhile, Athena has been challenged to a duel to the death by the Order of the Cohorts of Gashang knight Sir Scarrow. She is not planning on accepting this challenge until the Naveh's priests schemes are stopped.

Part 1 - Rumor Mongering

During their downtime Quazzy and Yureb attempt to sow rumors in the city that the Priestesses of the Order of the Eight Demons are planning to have Sir Scarow murdered after he kills Athena. Unfortunately, none of their efforts gain any traction.

Part 2 - Murder at the Inn

The Orgon Faridone, who owns the Tabard and Hearth Inn has been identified as a Navean Priest/Assassin. Yureb finds him talking to the Barkeeper and successfully engages him in a conversation. Using magic, he conceals the nature of some very strong drinks and starts to get him a little drunk.

Then Quazzy armed with the legendary 15th Desridian Dagger, poisoned with White Death, stabs him from behind while Athena creates a distraction. Yureb summons his shadow blade and strikes from concealment under the table killing him. The assassination is so swift and efficient no one in the tavern notices it.

The party leaves the dead body, looking like he passed out and went upstairs to investigate his room. Yureb finds some traps, one painfully, but for the most part, the room is typical of what is expected of an Inn's owner except hidden in the fireplace are vials of Haze and Bloodbane poison.

An alarm is raised, and the party decided to leave the Inn via the secret exit, which was previously scouted by Quazzy's familiar. This leads to the Spider Lodge, a water cistern where the party believes the Church of Naveh is planning their summoning ritual. The chamber has been cleaned out, and obviously, preparations are underway.

Part 3 - The Astrologer

The next Priest/Assassin the heroes plan to kill is Hennigar Gyll, the Astrologer. Quazzy poses a customer, but a visitor interrupts the session, and Herrigar has to leave immediately. The murder of Orgon has been discovered.

Quazzy sends her invisible familiar to follow on behind him, and he travels through the sewers into the hidden temple. She observes the Primate calling together the temple leadership. The temple is placed on high alert and all unnecessary business banned. Following the Primate she looks into his office noting a Gold Ring and a Purple Cloak, these are the trappings of a Senator. Quazzy dismisses the familiar before it is discovered.

Part 4 - The Chamber of Red Domes

Given that the Primate may well be a Senator the heroes decide to attend a sitting of the Chamber of Red Domes, the Republics Senate building. They spend for most of the day listening to the debates and general business until Quazzy hears a familiar voice speaking, Senator Baloth Nemirina. His voice matches the Primates closely, and Quazzy recalls many months ago, at the Grand Gala, while dancing with her Warlock Patron, Desridaen, asking who her enemies are. He said they are very close and Baloth Nemirina was only standing 15 feet away.

Part 5 - Meetings

Koral the Bloody
The party has a brief meeting with Ivor the Pale, he is surprised when informed of the Primate's identity and is still keen on assaulting the temple and killing any priest he can find. Given the temple is on full alert, the heroes postpone their plans to attack.

Yureb meets with Koral the Bloody, head of the Thieves Guild and finds that the Nemirina Mansion is off limits for thieves guild robberies. Koral seems very annoyed over this.

Part 6 - The Note

The heroes come up with another plan, they will create a forged note from the high priestess of the Order of the Eight Demons Albalny Sunis to Senator Baloth Nemirina saying that she knows his secret. Yureb and Quazzy find examples of her handwriting (and Baloth's if needed) and Yureb uses his Cursed Inkwell to create a very convincing forgery. They hope that this will start a conflict between the Order of the Eight Demons and the Church of Naveh.

Quazzy magically disguised an Eight Demons Priestess and Yureb as a Cohorts of Gashang guard delivers the note to Baloth's Mansion. Quazzy's familiar invisibility observes Baloth receiving the letter, but the Senator senses the familiar's presence in the room and calls out to Quazzy as it is dismissed.

Part 7 - Assassins

That night while the party is planning their next move at The Stake Inn, Quazzy fails to notice magical scrying. Shorty after a squad of six Priest/Assassins attacks, all skilled in martial arts and adept at stunning and tripping the heroes. They are reinforced by three shadowy fiends, Lesser Gytevsha, striking through walls slowing their victim's movements. Both Kalin and Lucia are struck down, with Kalin requiring magical healing, and the remaining heroes barely prevail.
