Session 027 - Journey to Trobridge Inn

General Summary

Date 18th Azura (7) to 7th Halane (8) 720TR (Autumn)

The story so far

Quazzy has spent months trying to infiltrate the Church of Naveh in hope to undermine their plans to summon the Greater Gytevsha Krasula. She has passed all of their tests.

Also, word has reached the City of Coranan that the Tulwyn Barbarians are on the warpath halting the great eastern trading caravans from the Kingdom of Kaldor.

Part 1 - Quazzys Scouting Mission

For a week Quazzy sends her invisible familiar into the North Eastern section of the sewers searching for information on the hidden Church of Naveh.

After narrowly avoiding detection she learns the following;

  • The Naveh Priests use the Thieves passageways and both frequent these sections of the sewers (although separately).
  • The location of a Thieves safe house with access to the sewers.
  • The location of an Assassins safe house with access to the sewers.
  • The location of a secret passage frequently used by the Priests.
  • A high ranking Assassin has a room in the Tabard and Hearth Inn, next to The Pipe and the Potion apothecary. He is not the innkeeper but may be the owner.
  • That Astrologer Hennigar Gyll appears to be a high ranking Priest.
  • That Ivor the Pale is a renegade Temple Assassin but passed some test and is allowed to live; however, the Assassins are watching him. Quazzy also learns he lives not far from her hovel.

Part 2 - Meeting with the Primate and Desridian

Quazzy receives another note instructing her to meet with the Primate and at the Shrine to Desridian in the sewers.

Before this meeting, the floor floods with blood and Quazzy's Patron Desridaen makes an appearance. The Demigod tells Quazzy that he has manipulated events so that she will be given an opportunity to make a difference. The Church of Naveh will instruct her to recover an item, what she does with it will be her decision. He warns Quazzy that the Church will plan to dispose of her when this mission is completed. He also says she will soon understand why she was chosen as his disciple.

The meeting with the Primate occurs shortly after Desridian departs. The primate explains that the uprising among the Tulwyn Barbarians has closed the salt route, the only trade network to the Kingdom of Kaldor and the eastern Kingdoms. She is to collect an item from Adrianna Mironia, a Night Person fortune teller currently held up at Trobridge Inn. He says she will be well rewarded for her service but Quazzy notes a deceptive edge in his voice.

Part 3 - The Lance

Before the party leave for Trobridge Athena has an unexpected visitor, a courier with a Masterwork Lance. This superb quality weapon has a silver inlay and enameled with Athena's family colors, black and gold. On inspection, Quazzy notices nothing suspicious about it and reading the thoughts of the courier finds no clue to its origin.

Part 4 - Travel to Trobridge Inn

DM's Note

The journey to Trobridge Inn was carried out using the skill challenge mechanism. The characters must make 6 successes before 3 fails.
Objective - Make it to Trobridge Inn while avoiding the Tulwyn uprising.
The consequence of each failure - Major encounter(s) before reaching Trobridge Inn.
Success - Get to Trobridge Inn with only one encounter plus a valuable reward, which is access to a long lost Elven Shrine with a +2 to Wisdom increase.
The party performed well and avoided any likely hazards or major encounters.


Yureb finds an ancient Elven pathway around various Tulwyn encampments. This was magically hidden however detected through either extremely alert senses or blind luck which led to an ancient Elven Shrine containing a fountain. As the party approach, from out of the trees a variety of small and man-sized humanoid plant or wooden guardians emerge and immediately attack. Quazzy takes on the magical appearance of an Elf and telepathically is able to appease the shrines guardians, gaining access.

Drinking from the fountain imbues the characters with a heightened awareness of the natural world.

A few days out from Trobridge the party pass through a concealed gully and were ambushed by a gang of huge, giant size, monstrous humanoids led by a freak with two heads. They were eventually dispatched but badly injured half the party.

Part 5 - Arrival at the Inn

The Heroes arrive at Trobridge Inn after paying the toll at the ford to enter. They find their way to the highly fortified shop of the Glassworker and Merchant of Elven Goods, Lysa Amael, and Athena purchases a beautiful Silver Pendant in the likeness of an Owl.

Part 6 - Meeting with the Gypsy Fortune Teller

At the Gypsy camp Quazzy meets with Adriana Mironi, the Night Person Mystic asking for her fortune to be told. She proved to be very skilled, using a large crystal skull for her scrying, and correctly identifies what Quazzy's purpose is, as well as some other unsettling facts from her present and past. She says she will hand over the package at midnight, which she does after a night of entertainment, although both Quazzy and Athena don't join in.

Part 7 - The Cheaters

During the night's festivities, Yureb engages in a friendly dice games with Vladimir Mironi, a Night Person Potion and Elixir seller. The stakes escalate with Yureb suspecting Vladimir is cheating with Weighted Dice. Yureb himself cheats on the final dice game using magic to win Vladimir's weighted dice and some bottles of colored water. Vladimir is convinced that Yureb cheated, but is not sure how so takes it in good grace as the better cheat won.

Part 8 - Inspection of The Package

Yureb carefully opens Quazzy's package, taking care to preserve the seal and finds inside an Elven Long Knife. This magnificent enchanted weapon has red inscriptions and the blade permanently runs with the blood of the slain.

This is the fifteenth and final blade made by Desridaen when alive and was the weapon the Priests of Naveh killed him with over a thousand years ago.

The Heroes consider options. To be continued....
