Cerebrum

The Capitol City of Mergha; if you find The Institute, then you will find the pieces of Cerebrum orbiting it in the sky like the rest of Mergha’s cities. Split into four different sections based on the brain’s lobes (Frontal, Parietal, Occipital, and Temporal), Cerebrum uses teleportation technology to travel between these different districts.

Government

Overseen by the intellectual council, The Felicities, Cerebrum has a barter system, trading in physical items and services rather than in credits like the other planets in the New Terran Societies. This barter system accounts for even the smallest of dealings, including a variety of skills, passions, or information. To use a transportation system overseen by a person, one can do a multitude of actions to barter their way through. Singing, a new theory, a new and interesting riddle, or even talk of one's work or studies can be used to bargain.

Industry & Trade

With such close proximity to the Institute, Cerebrum has the pick of services and labor to trade in return for outside research. Children, or those who are still undergoing their education at the Institute, use their schooling and tradecraft in exchange for materials and sources for their various theses or projects in order to graduate. Typically a Child will spend a few years in service of a company, industry, or scientific center to gain favors before they graduate.

History

Originally planned to be a city swimming through the sea, the idea was scrapped when it was discovered that the waters of Mergha would be too corrosive for a continued existence in the ocean. However, the city at that time had been partially built already, with the domes in place to keep out the water. When Cerebrum was pushed above sea, the domes cracked and broke from the force, leaving pieces behind to be recovered at a later date.

Architecture

The style of Cerebrum’s four districts is modern-minimalist in nature, made of lightweight steel and other such materials. Each piece of the city is constructed to offer little to no wind resistance to keep itself afloat. It orbits the Institute thanks to a set of magnetic cores which connect to the gravity mass of the Institute.   Large towers are set in the center of each district, where the residential apartments and homes are built into, and where they act as large beacons in case the parts get separated. Along the edges of Cerebrum’s four districts are condensation collectors, separate from each other, with piping leading to water tanks in each district.   Underneath is a secondary means of flotation: large fans facing downward and rotating underneath the massive structures of Cerebrum. This is a leftover from previous incarnations of the city, along with the remains of a large dome in the form of see-through shards acting as a type of shielding; a wall hundreds of meters high around each district.
“See, the man was a Brummie,” said the keep. He rubbed his chin as though that answered everything. Maybe in Centauri, it did. “Seen their type, that I ‘ave. Hoity-toity types—brainiacs from the School. A billion degrees and nowhere ta go.”
