Mirium Dynus

By 2099, humankind had spread beyond Earth and its moon, straight into multiple space stations throughout the rest of the Sol System. Low-powered hubs were built on a terraformed Mars, on the distant Pluto, on the fragmented moons of Saturn and its rings, or cut beneath the ice and slush of Neptune. For a time and a half, an era of peace, stored knowledge, and pure, competitive innovation had reigned over the Sol System, pushing humans beyond their previous short-lived lives into ones that could stretch over 200 years. Enhanced by nanites and brilliant technological and medical breakthroughs, they developed beautiful alternatives to fossil fuels and pollution, reversed some of the damage their ancestors had inflicted on their home planet.   But it wasn't enough. The sheer numbers of humanity outgrew their efforts to return their planet to a healthy, thriving world. Instead, they found that they were only buying time.   With Earth dying, their solar system quickly becoming overpopulated, and the slow starvation of the human race looming all-too-near, Terrans desperately looked beyond their nearest stars and into the cold, empty galaxy for answers to their survival. After years of searching, sending probes into the deep with rudimentary hyper-travel and FTL communications, they found their only salvation in a hostile solar system, in a far part of the galaxy they named Mirium Dynus. Protected on all sides by multiple asteroid belts and equally hostile systems, but extremely toxic to most organic life, they struggled to solve just how they could live and thrive without making the same mistakes that were now killing their own solar system. How could they, as humans, begin to survive this hostile new sector of the galaxy?   An answer came in the question: "What makes us human? Our bodies, our minds, or our hearts?"
