The fairytale about the soldier and the princess
It rained the entire day and didn't look like it was about to stop anytime soon. In a chamber in a palace were two young children, the one lying in bed under a blanket with the older one sitting at the edge of the bed brushing a lock of hair from the forehead of the younger one in the bed.
"But Ira, you told me you would tell me a story if I drank my medicine," Eza said suppressing a cough
suppressing a yawn Ira looked at Eza and smiled.
"Fine fine, have you ever heard about the story of the soldier that became king?"
Eza shook her head and tugged in preparing for the story
"A long time ago when Pearlhal was still just a small city, there was this young soldier who was walking along the main street when he spotted this young girl, they talked for hours about anything between heaven and earth until they had to go in each their direction. Later after having returned from a successful campaign the soldier was walking down the road towards Pearlhal when an old woman stopped the soldier and asked if he would help her retrieve an old book that had been left in a cave nearby, in return the soldier would be allowed to keep the fire steel also located in the cave, the old woman insured that the fire steel was magical and would be of great use to the soldier. The soldier agreed to help the old woman and went to retrieve the book and fire steel, from the cave. At the cave, the soldier saw that the old woman had forgotten to tell about the giant direwolf guarding the entrance. But the soldier is a clever young man who hatched a cunning plan and was able to sneak past the direwolf and into the cave where he was able to find the book and the fire steel. Sneaking back out and past the direwolf, the soldier returned to the old woman who was waiting, having returned the old woman told the soldier to keep the book as well, when he asked why she told him that she was a messenger from one of the gods that had taken an interest in the soldier and that the book would be useful to the soldier later and he would know when. Back on the road and having reached Pearlhal the following day the soldier rented a room in a rundown tavern, where he in the evening learned that the king had promised the princess to who ever won the large tournament that was about to happen in the town Later that night the soldier got curious what was in the book so he decided to open it and have a look, barely had he opened the book before he found himself standing at the edge of a beautiful lake when someone in a soft voice asked what brought him to her favorite spot, turing around he saw a beautiful young woman that presented herself as the goddess Mara . Mara repeated her question and the soldier told her the story with the old woman and about the tournament, the goddess nodded and disappeared for a second before she returned with a beautiful sword, she told the soldier that this was the Silverlight and that with this if it deemed him worthy, he could win the tournament and get the princess. Hardly had the soldier grapped the sword before he found himself back in his room looking confused around before he realized that he was holding the sword still. A few days after, the soldier entered the tournament and the first rounds he dealt with easily, but the soldier faced a problem, for one of the rounds he had to team up with another in a pair. The soldier tried asking around but all the other contestors seemed to avoid him, or was already teamed up knowing about the requirement earlier, and the soldier was about to give up when someone tapped him on the shoulder and the soldier turned around, seing a rather slender person with leather armour and a helmet covering their face. they were using a bow, the person asked if he wanted to team up seing that they were the only ones without a partner. The team proceeded to the semifinals and defeated the other pair with no big trouble, the unknown persons bow covering for the soldier when he moved in with the sword and shield. the pair would face each other in the finals and during a particular heated fight, the soldier managed to knock off the other persons helmet off revealing that the opponment was no other than the princess the tournament was set up for, but what surprised him more was that he had seen the girl before, it was the girl he had met all that time ago when he visited Pearlhal the first time. Realizing that her cover was blown, she turned to face the king and told that she would choose her own husband and that that one would be the soldier, she said pointing her shortsword towards the rather confused soldier. After a moment of confusion the crowed around them shouted hurrah and people whistled through their fingers and sitting back, almost looking defeated, the king gave his approval. The wedding lasted all of a week with celebrations all over the town.Suppressing another yawn, Ira looked out of the window "And they lived happily ever after," Ira said "Big sis?" Eza said looking at Ira who was about to stand up "mhm?" "I'm glad you are not going to be making a living of this because this story is bad," Eza said while a little smirk For a moment Ira just stood there pretending to be shocked when she suddenly jumped onto the bed and began tickling Eza "You little..." Ira said while tickling Eza.
This is a fun story! I like your narrative style, the links to other articles in your world, and the incorporation of a storyteller.
Thank you :)
