Shadows in the Harbor Session 39

General Summary

Actions on the Objective

Using the key that Malark had found on Voren Thorne, he and the rest of the party began looking around as the building behind them burned. Before they could get too far, Deputy Valdin Hamming and several town guards showed up. Malark and Keck provided a quick explanation for the bodies and the burning building despite Damakos insistence on telling aspects of the story that would've otherwise landed the party in hot water. Apparently one of the South Wind members was secretly a Warforged in disguise and had turned on its South Wind cohorts. The brave men of the Merchant's Guild and these adventurers rushed to the rescue only to find the scene of carnage before them. Such a tragedy...   Deputy Hamming, flames lighting up his perfectly carved musculature, surveyed the scene. He believed the party and asked for their help in putting out the fire. For the next hour the group of them worked hard to extinguish the flames with possibly the greatest success coming from Baron Deeplight whose inspirational efforts brought even the mighty Tim the Not-so-Tiny to near tears. The job done, Deputy Hamming invited the party to the local tavern for some respite. The party would join him eventually, but they needed to search the premises first without alerting the deputy.   They pulled out Voren Thorne's key again and approached the one building they hadn't checked yet. Several crates, although none the size of Warforged, lay about along with a weapon rack containing rather mundane weapons albeit plenty of them. Looking around, they noticed several of the crates were marked with symbol of The Society of the Silk Rose; these drew their attention the most. They checked the boxes for traps and found one. Keck managed to successfully disarm the mechanism and they pried open the first box.   Jewels and gold pieces, possibly to fund operations or grease the proverbial skids sat in the box. They pulled all the newfound loot into their bag of holding. The next crate held something more curious in it. A number of strange looking materials sat in the box, some with eerie glows. Baron Deeplight leaned over the edge and immediately identified the contents. He recognized them as: Moonfire Dust, Essence of Flame, Essence of Shadow, and Witch's Thyme. All of these items items could be used on their own, in conjunction with something else, or could be part of various transmutation magics. Regardless, it was beyond the skillset of the Baron.    The party decided to take the ingredients with them, even though Baron cautioned them that were volatile. That would be something they'd have to figure out.   Keck and Damakos successfully recovered several documents out of the South Wind's headquarters before Deputy Hamming arrived. They found a letter from Zelda Bens notifying Voren Thorne of the arrival of "special assistance" who they deduced was the disguised Warforge. They found a draft letter to Ravenna LaGraine in Kilbourne which provided reflections of the disruption that the party had caused when they defeated Reckoner; and they had found an unsent rejection notice to Abbess Spiritiheart at the Solemn Hill Monastery  Fel'Shu recognized the name and the place as he had spent many summers in his youth there. The Abbess had always a stern, but kind woman who looked out for him and the younger monks. The party decided to pay them a visit...
