Warforged

The Warforged were a group of sentient constructs created by the Phasnosh Civilization several thousand years ago. They have largely faded into legend, but from time time their ruins are unearthed by explorers or adventurers.

Social Structure

The available chronicles mention that the warforged would enter into battle in formations numbering in the hundreds to thousands. They would be able to break into smaller, cohesive units and maneuver around enemies quickly and methodically. The same chronicles also laid out how even smaller units of three to five warforged would be employed on special missions such as reconnaissance or sabotage. Tales from adventurers or explorers over the years reported finding the remains of three or four warforged at a time. 
It is written that warforged formed tight bonds with one another and the archaeological evidence would seem to support that. As previously mentioned, the remains of groups of warforged are often found together, suggesting that they would stay together even until death.
It is known that they were particularly egalitarian, with few fixed social hierarchies. Perhaps this was because of their shared construct heritage, or their experiences as soldiers. Regardless, this all contributed to their willingness to share - whether it be resources, stories, or authority.

Phasnosh Civilization

History

The warforged were created as shock troops by the Phasnosh civilization. Initially, they would handle only the most challenging assignments, but eventually their numbers grew to the point where entire legions were comprised mostly of warforged. The Phasnosh would use these troops, as well as others, in their wars of conquest across the face of Minelara. 
When the Phasnosh collapsed towards the end of the Age of Secrets, so too did the understanding of how to create the warforged. Along with that loss of knowledge, the warforged were left without a purpose, and so were left to wander the world and find their own way. With no way to reproduce and no great unifying cause to drive them, the warforged eventually went extinct and fell into legend.
