Session 25

A quick casting of Healing Word from Vigwalin brought Sir Didymus back from the brink of death. The giant constrictor snake summoned earlier wrapped itself around the body of the wyvern, crushing the ribcage of the massive creature and splaying out on the ground. Bloodbane brought his Ravager axe down on top of the beast, ending its life. The group took a quick moment to heal themselves and recover what they could from the giant's horde. In addition to a number of gold coins and gems, Bloodbane uncovered a legendary Scarab of Protection.   The Party gathered themselves and made their way back up to the servants' hallway. They opened the door slowly, careful not to draw the attention of the hill giant guard that had just opened the door at the end of the hall but suddenly turned back into the main receiving room. The group managed to sneak back to the loading dock where they met up with Zandriel Leorel and quickly departed the palace.    The group informed Zandriel that they had access to an airship, but he countered that it was impossible to land in the airship port in Heior. The decision was made to head to the southern edge of the island through the woods as quickly as possible; Typhon sent his familiar, the owl Hootie, out to find Merimas Stumbletoe and let him know where to find them. They met no resistance as they climbed up the hills and into the forest. At the last moment, a wyvern came out from the west, the sun setting behind its back, and crashed down upon the group. A single wyvern was much more easy to defeat than a pair of them, and the creature was about to retreat when Bloodbane managed to hack off one of its legs. A firebolt from Typhon brought the beast crashing down into the hillside.   The Party found their way to the edge of the island, mountain tops several thousand feet below them. There they waited. They waited some more. Just when they thought they would have no way off the island, Merimas and the Century Sparrow appeared, albeit a bit worse for wear. Merimas explained he had gotten into a kerfuffle with a pack of gryphons, but emerged victorious. The group boarded the vessel and headed over to Halfrbjod, about three hours away.   Along the way, both Merimas and Zandriel explained that the island was much easier to get to and that they didn't have the strict customs controls that Vandrbjod did. It should be no problem to land near the town of Ariland  The snow blew off the top of the island as the Sparrow approached, covering the modified airship in a thin layer of powder. The ship landed in the town which was much smaller than Heior, but a good bit more hectic. The group, a tad bit battered and bruised, made their way to the nearest tavern, called The Tricky Explorer, which Merimas knew quite well. The snow sloughed off their clothes as they entered the warm tavern where various sketchy-looking people were sitting. One party of adventurers looked up and shared a couple of laughs with the group.    The Party sat at a nearby table and ordered a couple of drinks. It was Zandriel's first time having ale and Bloodbane was fully intent on getting him drunk. The dragonborn bartender, Alidhal Naldrur, worked hard to keep the ale flowing for the tired adventurers. Meanwhile, the stone continued to talk to Typhon, urging him to take it from this place. Then a dire warning came. The stone said that he was coming. And then that he was here. Typhon urged the group to leave, panic leaking from his voice.    As soon as the Party exited the tavern, a building back in town exploded in firey ruin. They looked up, and saw the fleet of airships overhead...
