Ports' Gambit Session 4

General Summary

Your Package has Arrived

Having been deputized by Sheriff Duskstone and received the details of the murders from Alyce Dorgonn, the group decided to complete their delivery quest for Leah Pehosley before the end of the day. The sun was beginning to set and shops were starting to close up, so the group made haste through the town to the Plane Walker Magic Shop.   The street traffic was beginning to dissipate as shops were closing for the day and bad weather was on the horizon. The group passed by a wheelright and others before finally arriving at the curio shop. The small bell jingled as the group entered the rainbow-colored room illuminated by a strange orb proudly sitting atop a table. In front of the stood Qi'faren Elesh, a well-dressed elf prone to speaking with a heady cadence and wild gesticulations. He asked if they needed any assistance and the group informed him that they were there to deliver the a box of goods on behalf of Leah Pehosley.    Qi'faren was delighted at receiving his package and took out his key immediately. He eagerly opened it, showing off the collection of glass bottles and vials which he explained were various ingredients that he had run out of. Having broached the topic, he asked if the party would be interested in some work for him. They were curious and asked about the details. Qi'faren explained that he needed some additional ingredients from the nearby Hastlet Woods and that he'd offer them one gold piece each. They said they'd give it some thought and Xolos asked if there was any time limit on it, to which Qi'faren replied that he'd like it within the next two or three days preferably.    On the way out, they stopped briefly at Callie Daggersharp's wheelright. Torque approached the young halfling and introduced himself. He asked Callie if she'd seen anything unusual but unfortunately she didn't have any information that seemed out of place, just that he usually goes home around the same that she closes up shop each day. Nevertheless, seeing an opportunity, Torque gave her a gold piece to keep her eyes open in case there was anything strange that happens.

Just the Facts, M'am...

The party headed over to the Castleport Library where they hoped to learn about one of the victims, a librarian named Abigayle Undermoor. The group entered the large structure, which appeared to be upon an older, less polished building, and walked through a pair of welcoming wooden doors. A half-elf sat behind the reception desk with her messy, blonde hair tied up in a top knot of sorts.    The group introduced themselves to the woman, Natalie Iscalon, the head librarian, and informed her that they were there to ask a few questions about the murder of Abigayle. Natalie's face tensed up and tears could be seen welling up in her eyes. It became quite apparent to the investigators that Natalie and Abigayle were close friends. Spruce Springstream comforted the woman and began asking his questions along with Torque.    They asked about how long Abigayle had worked at the library and how long they'd known eachother. They inquired if she took the same route home everyday and if she ever got into any trouble. Natalie explained that Abigayle was a creature of habit and that she would walk the same route everyday to and from work and that everyone liked her.    Their questions answered, Torque inquired if they had any books on alchemy, specifically ones involving the herbs that Qi'faren Elesh had requested that they get. Natalie thought long and hard about it. She had read just about every book in the library, but there was a restricted section that was off limits to all visitors due to the dangerous nature of the knowledge contained within. She hinted that there may be something in one of those old tomes, but they were written in a language that she didn't recognize and she wasn't going to retrieve them for the group anyway, investigation be damned.    Feeling somewhat blocked by the bureaucratic ramblings of the head librarian, the group decided to depart and seek the comfort of the Fox & Cur tavern before the storm came in.

Let's Get a Drink

The sun had set and street side torches were being lit by a young man walking by and magically snapping his fingers nearby. The tavern, a smallish wooden building with a rounded corner and A-framed roof, stood noisily in a stone's throw distance from the docks. The group opened the door and the sound of music, drinking, and laughter filled their ears. They entered the structure and the first thing that caught their eyes were a group of rough looking men sitting and drinking at a table with a scantily-clad woman who was clearly a prostitute.   Torque headed over and introduced himself, interrupting the group of men. The closest stood up and informed him that they weren't looking for more company and that the woman was spoken for. He threw his beer into Torque's face and the dragonborn sorcerer lapped it up with glee. The thug, clearly aching for a confrontation, accused Torque of spilling his drink and told him to get him a new one. As Torque complied and was brought a new drink by the bartender, Derick Clemensen  Meanwhile, the rest of the party was busy sitting down at a nearby table. Xolos and Spruce watched as the conversation between Torque and the thug appeared to grow heated, while Kregsmum stood near the door.   Torque took a sip of his beer and accidently spit a small amount at the thug. He quickly grew enraged and threw a right cross at the sorcerer. Torque was down, but not out. He stood up and shot a breath of flame from his mouth at the thug which also ignited the gruff man behind him. The situation was quickly escalating as Spruce began to play an inspirational song. The third thug jumped out of his chair and ran at the half-elf bard with his fist balled.    As the fight continued, Torque found himself knocked out while Xolos managed to set one of the thugs on fire. As he lay burning, the third man ran out of the tavern into the night and the approaching storm. As the last thug began to escape, Kreggsmum attempted to chase him down. The party must now decide if they're going to help put out the growing fire or give chase...
