Ports' Gambit Session 14

General Summary

I Needed to Take a Minute...

Kregsmum stepped out of the tavern into the early afternoon sunshine. She rubbed the sleep out of her eyes and took a look around for signs of her friends. She suspected that they may have gone to visit Qi'faren Elesh over at his shop since they had talked about it the last time they were all together. The hobgoblin barbarian headed westward in the general direction of the alchemist's shop.    It was no more than a five minute walk before she had eyes on the shop and could see the elven shopkeeper standing out front. She could see that he was talking to someone, but she wasn't close enough to either hear what was being said or to whom he was talking. But she could tell from his body language that the situation was getting heated.    She continued to close the distance and as she did so she could begin to make out some of the conversation being had. The party was demanding to know what the  destroyed automaton in the crate was. Meanwhile Qi'faren refused to divulge any information and insisted that that they return his property to him and leave him be. The elf looked at Kregsmum and accused her of being part of this destruction and mayhem. The barbarian took her place by the party's side.   A pair of thugs from the South Wind Trading Company trading company made their way up the street and through the gathering crowd of onlookers. They could be heard shouting "make a hole!" and shoving people out of their way. Torque, Chupa Saltamontes, and Leroy Jenkins positioned themselves near the front of the cart and prepared for escalation.

We're Doing This

The thugs arrived and began demanding answers to what was going on. Qi'faren pleaded with Xolos and Spruce Springstream, but the sorcerer and bard were insistent that he tell them everything.    Leroy attempted to dissuade the thugs from further interference, but they just laughed at his attempt to intimidate him and poked the dwarf in the chest, calling him puny in the process. Leroy began to see red and unleashed his fury after letting it build for a moment. He attacked the thug by shoving him to the ground and Torque joined in the fray.    Qi'faren vanished in a flash of silvery mist and then suddenly reappeared 30 feet closer to his shop just before he released a line of flame at Xolos, Spruce, and Chupa. Xolos attacked in kind, sending a blast of flame back to the alchemist but only causing minor damage.    Torque attempted to put the thugs to sleep, but succeeded in only putting out the onlookers who were beginning to scatter anyway. Leroy, still enraged at being called short, hacked at the thug's leg with his axe. The blood spurted all over the place and he let out a howl of pain. Chupa jumped onto his chest and put a dagger up against his neck. She yelled at him and told him to surrender. It didn't take much convincing, as the thug had no other options.   Kregsmum grabbed a torch, lit it, and attempted to cauterize the wound to prevent the thug from bleeding out. He let out another howl of pain as the scent of burning flesh and fabric began to fill the air.    Spruce attempted to use his weaponized wit against Qi'faren, but the elven alchemist was too sharp for that. He attempted to wrest control of Leroy, enchanting him from afar. Leroy was powerless to resist, but Xolos managed to hit him with a firebolt which broke his concentration and freed Leroy who surely would have decimated the party.    Leroy turned his attention to the remaining thug and cut him down with a swiftness that gave Qi'faren pause. He began to retreat. By the time the he reached the threshold of his shop he had turned himself in a greyish-green mist and began to drift off.    Thinking fast, Kregsmum had Xolos toss her the book and grabbed the torch. She called out to the vaporous wizard and demanded he stop. She held the torch up to the book and threatened to destroy it. The cloud seemed to stop ascending, its attention apparently centered on Kregsmum and the torch. She demanded that he come to see them at The Sterling Beaver in an hour. The cloud appeared to acquiesce, in as much as a cloud can.    Now the party must figure out what to do with the injured thug and prepare for their meeting with Qi'faren.
