Gems, Items and consumables

This article lists materials, weapons and items of everyday or not-so-everyday use you find from certain Purveyors in your travels. Note that the list may be expanded upon, and certain unique items or priceless artifacts may not even be for sale - and wars have been fought over such items.

Gem values

First off, we need to establish the common currency found in the world of Midrast Wain - gems. Gems of different sizes, colors, types, be they aquamarines, rubies, diamonds, gold nuggets or emerals - all these are converted to a universal Gem value. For clarification, one carat is equivalent to 200 miligrams and as such, most of these gems are found in pieces of about 10 - 100 carats.
For GMs: If you want to simplify the calculations, you may simply note that the player found a ruby worth 12 gems rather than tell them how many carats their precious stone has.

Gem values in Midrast Wain.

Note that a Purveyor skilled as Gemcrafter may be able to manufacture weapons or items from these gems.
  • Ruby - 0.1 gems per carat
  • Sheetstone - 0.15 gems per carat
  • Silver 0.2 gems per carat
  • Sapphire - 0.3 gems per carat
  • Gold - 0.4 gems per carat
  • Aquamarine - 0.5 gems per carat
  • Oddrock - 0.6 gems per carat
  • Emerald - 1.2 gems per carat
  • Obsidian - 1.5 gems per carat
  • Jeremejevite - 2 gems per carat
  • Fire Opal - 2,3 gems per carat
  • Poudretteite - 3 gems per carat
  • Benitoite - 4 gems per carat
  • Red Beryl - 10 gems per carat
  • Diamond - 15 gems per carat
  • Grandidierite - 20 gems per carat
Generally, all dragons earn about 2 gems per day of work. The more privileged individuals earn more and may have a free Dusk feasting meal included in their pay grade. Note that some smaller societies and tribes may not even have a currency system and instead only trade goods and services amongst each other, this is especially true for Wild dragons.

Bags

Everyone starts their adventure with a Leather pouch that can be tied and untied easily and allows the wearer to carry their gems and two items with them. If a character wishes to conceal the fact they have a weapon or some other suspicious item with them, they need to roll a stealth check. The DC is higher depending on the size of the bag, with smaller bags DC being higher. Characters attempting to wear bags filled with items requiring higher strength than their Characteristic allows them will be unable to fly, run or swim and can't participate in Encounters unless their burden is dropped.   Leather pouch that fits 2 items, can be tied around neck or legs – 10 gems (Strength 4 and higher can carry this. Starting item)
Leather bag that fits 4 items, can be tied around neck – 40 gems (Strength 6 and higher can carry this. Takes one full turn to tie/untie the Leather bag.)

Vanity items

Crafted by Purveyor - Engraver/Leatherworker/Woodcarver and Hunters
Many creatures of Midrast Wain see value of others based on how presentable and rich they appear. The higher circles of nobility may refuse to speak to a dragon or gryphon without anything to their name but may be more willing to listen if they wear a particularly rare necklace. Precise table of how much your vanity items raise your Fame can be found in Advanced roleplaying rules. Be wary, some areas are far from safe for rich dragons to traverse. Those with Character background of Nobles start with 50 gems worth of vanity items.   Hardwood bracelet (fits on ankles and tail) – 4 gems
Leather bracelet (fits on ankles and tail) – 9 gems
Gold ring for claws/Piercing for ears – 38 gems
Silver ring for claws/Piecing for ears – 23 gems
Teeth necklace – 3 gems
Gemstone necklace – 15 gems + hundred carats of material worth of gems (See gem values at top of the page)
