Oddrock

Be careful with that spear! I swear, when I was carving it, it felt like it had a mind of its own and whispered to my claws...
Salmon, the Half-crazy Water dragon Purveyor   Very few dragons can harvest Oddrock as it is located exclusively under seawater, in oceans or lakes that formerly were part of the ocean. However, the main reason why it is seldom used is because of its "confusing" nature. Many dragons that end up in close contact with it tend to suffer from hallucinations, allergies, visions or otherwise start acting oddly - hence its name.   Despite these difficulties, it is heavily sought after by Greencarers, Purveyors and Clawstoppers for either study/prime oddity to sell/sharp and confusing weapon to carve enemies with.

Properties

Material Characteristics

The shimmering glitter of green and yellow covers its surface like fluid. It is difficult to carve out with anything but obsidian tools.   It also appears to be constantly wet, even outside of water.

Physical & Chemical Properties

Feels cold and wet to touch, prolonged exposure by contact makes one dizzy and may cause hallucinations.

Compounds

Used as material for spears, Third claws, torture tools and mineral gathering tool.

Geology & Geography

Found frequently close to rocky shores and under saline waters.

Life & Expiration

The oozing liquid sheen seems to come from within the Oddrock but its deterioration has not been properly measured. It is certainly longer than one dragon's lifetime, if not more.

History & Usage

Refinement

Refinement requires a very sharp implement, either a different Oddrock or obsidian. The resulting sharpening of edges and cutting is most commonly used to make blades for Third claws or spears. Only a fool would try to fashion an armor or amulet out of it...

Byproducts & Sideproducts

The colorful sheen that covers its surface is generally discarded when Oddrock items are fashioned. Care should be taken as even this biproduct can cause hallucinations.

Hazards

The hazardous surface is generally covered in leather so as to avoid direct contact when fashioning it into an item. The prolonged effect of direct contact may result in itching, hallucinations, allergic reactions, visions, loss or change of personality and other mental health issues.

Environmental Impact

Naturally it exists only underwater and fish are repulsed by its sheen, so it can be used to protect an underwater area from fish-like creatures and predators.

Distribution

Trade & Market

Purveyors selling rare items and materials sell them, generally difficult to obtain.

Law & Regulation

Several Water dragon tribes have outlawed its usage to protect the nests and eggs therein from predators. Given its effectiveness at repulsing fish, this position is not universally accepted. However, one loose Oddrock falling too close to the egg-nests can be catastrophic.
