Summercamp 2024 Pledge

Camp Chill

I do intend to take it easy this Summercamp. Silver is merely a goal, it's not mandatory. I mostly just want to chill and relax, proudly participating in Camp Chill this year! Burning out is forbidden. Of course I want to go feral, but we're feral chillin'.

The Valley of Plenty

My primary focus is the same as the past Summercamp and past two Worldembers: Work on my PF2 Valley of Plenty setting, to get it ready for usage. Once our Leverage campaign wraps up, I want to be able to hit the ground running. It will be a fun thing to do, as I want to use a Chronology which shows not just where the party went, but also the path of other groups.
Valley of Plenty

The settlement of a mysterious valley

Lance Breaker

As backup for prompts that don't work well with the Valley, I have a scifantasy setting Lance Breaker at the ready. I still like the idea of Lance Breaker's tension between utopia and dystopia, where many parties are trying to walk a tightrope to keep control without being oppressive. A hard balance to keep. And there enters Valya.

Nnie's Camp Chill Guidelines

- Remember the prompts are suggestions, not requirements.

- Write what you're passionate about, leave what you aren't.

- Relax when you feel tired.

- Fight off any pesky brain-squitos trying to make you doubt your work.

- Don't abandon your non-summercamp goals! Write that article you're itching to write, even if it doesn't fit any prompts.

Week 1: Change

The Valley is all about change. The refugees are trying to build villages, farms, bases, all they need to survive. At the same time, Scouts are trying to fill in the gaps and help explore this valley. This all has to come from nothing, while the valley is about to show its own mysteries and force everyone to adept...   With Lance Breaker, life on Ymir is slowly sliding out of control. With the rise of so-called Pillagers and their sympathizers, the army has a hard time balancing public safety with the procession of their intended forfeiting of control over society. It is at this time that Valya joins the Battle Spears, the first Ymirborn to do so. With her various secrets and a ticking timebomb inside her head, she may very well become the catalyst for change. The main question is, will she damn us all, or deliver us from evil...
Homework
As before, I am setting a modest goal of Silver, aiming for 16 out of 40 prompts. A doable goal if life gets in the way, but also with enough room to go feral and chase higher goals if things go well. Let's face it: If I manage, I definitely will go feral near the end. But thanks to staying chill and holding to my schedule, I can afford to.   As for categories, tags, and meta: I have already updated the Valley for Worldember 2023, so that suffices. And with Lance Breaker, I feel like I need more content before deciding to update that list. There is one exception: I intend to tag Lance Breaker articles with their security clearance. Those articles are written from an in-universe perspective, so both their primary organization and their required clearance will become tags!

Week 3: Belief

One cannot just uproot one's entire existence to explore an alien place, whether a lost valley or a different planet, without the belief that everything will turn out right. This belief, this hope, is heavily needed. Though it can easily turn into a toxic pill of despair. That fine line inbetween, what will happen if it's crossed? What if it breaks apart? Will society break along with it?   But that's not the only belief out there. In the valley, some scheming nobles consider themselves by far superior to others, which is leading to unrest. And on Ymir, the pillagers and their sympathizers vigorously believe in things that others consider the conspiracy theories of madmen...
Homework
Fortunately my metas list a lot of inspirations already. And of course there has been reality. There are parallels with Covid in Lance Breaker after all. Though the biggest inspiration for me? Music. I know just the songs that get me in the right writing mood.

Week 2: Refuge

It's not just the current residents that had to take cover within the valley. The old residents too had to face a lot of threats, creating literal safe areas with ancient runes and more. While many of these protections failed over time, some still remain. As these places are discovered and studied, they provide a warning to what the new refugees will have to prepare for.   Ymir is still an alien planet, with infectious diseases and dangerous wildlife to prepare against. The gates of the First City are eternally guarded by the army, but even that protection can falter due to sabotage. And the homesteaders cannot hide behind such large defenses. Instead, they must take their safety in their own hands, while being ready to flee if needed.
Homework
Time to become active on Discord again! #summercamp-24 here I come! I have been way too busy the past year to really be active there, but the channel is always a good place to brainstorm and help others brainstorm as well. As for styling, I have some semi-default layouts and thanks to the ability to duplicate articles, I can turn these into templates then copy those. I won't prepare all of them now, but will do so whenever I find myself copying an existing article's layout during SC'24.

Week 4: Decay

Decay? Now that is a good way to describe how the valley fell. Its defenses grew weaker as disaster struck. The same faith may await us. Our resources will become less and less, so if we cannot quickly replenish them, we will only grow weaker over time. So we must find more, but also make sure not to run haphazardly into danger.   Oh Ymir, how I love you. Yet this planet might very well become our grave. We have yet to properly defend ourselves against the Black Lung bacteria. So many refuse to take it serious and flaunt their defiance of the measures that keep us safe. What if they allow the disease to mutate? We barely can keep it under control as it is.   And what of the decay of our laws? We so easily can become a tyrannic surveillance state. But with all the terroristic attacks from pillagers, and the covert support of their sympathizers, more and more voices are calling for an iron fist. Will our future be bright, or will we tear each other apart? I fear the worst...
Homework
We got a new electrical kettle, so I can move the old one to my home office! With my teacase filled and the desk's contents recently reorganized, I can now keep a proper focus when writing. And while the Valley was already cleaned up recently, on Lance Breaker's homepage I added a link to the story primer!
