Shrikehollow
Built along the banks of the Destant River, Shrikehollow is a mysterious exception to the sunlit hillsides of Dopplefen. The swamplands fall away to hilly crags that the river snakes between before emptying out into the sea, and just far enough inland to avoid the worst of the sea storms is Shrikehollow.
The most interesting thing about Shrikehollow is not its location, but rather the residents.
There are an unusual number of aasimar amongst the population, and overlapping between them and the other members of the population (humans, halflings, and tieflings mostly) are blessed with sorcerous potential. Specifically, they are lunar sorcerers.
While the immediate assumption would be that these lunar sorcerers were blessed by Venebri, the goddess of twilight is only known by her own followers and scholars.
Instead, the town has assigned miracle to the mother of magic, Doloros. Her seeming blessing of the town has lead to an order of devotees known as the Mavens, known for their dark blue cloaks with interiors that are silver-embroidered with stars designs, charting the heavens in a way only they know. Each one is unique, and the Mavens can identify each other just by catching glimpses of the map and constellations in the lining of their cloaks.
Demographics
The majority of Shrikehollow's populace live modestly to comfortably, with only a few having enough wealth to qualify as aristocratically well off (or even wealthy). A little less than half have a quality of life that would be qualified as poor or worse.
Government
In an attempt to stabilize the lower class's living situation, Shrikehollow's government has instituted a 40% tax on all good purchased within the city limits.
Industry & Trade
Shrikehollow has well-established and protected trade routes with Talak and Galara.
Because of the odd magical capabilities of the people who live here, the residents specialize in creating many different levels of wonderous items, from the petty and trivial to the adventurer's dream (though many are of the "useful to the common man" variety).
Infrastructure
The taxes levied upon the population go directly into renovation projects for the village's poorest areas - which means that, even for those with little more than nothing, the village is clean and the infrastructure new and well-maintained.
Districts
Daneranth
The oldest district in the city, Daneranth is the hamlet that Shrikehollow grew up out of. It is a few streets that include a hotel, a general store, and some other basic amenities that are all much older looking than the rest of the city.
It's called "Old Dan" by most people who live in Shrikehollow.
The Luminary Quarter
Built along the river banks, the Luminary Quarter is dedicated to Doloros, and most of the strange sorcerous members of Shrikehollow find their homes in the quarter.
It is easy to navigate to the quarter from anywhere in the city due to the temple to Doloros: the Maven Observatory, half arcane academy, half shrine to the Many-Eyed.
Stockshire
Nestled in the midst of Shrikehollow, Stockshire is the place for the common people. It is walled in by the buildings of the other districts and therefore more defensible than the other areas of the village.
The largest building in the area is the Caldovan Distillery, which specializes in apple brandy. Appropriately, the temple to Politia that was established by the Caldovan family across the street is named Brandydowns.
Architecture
Most of the buildings in Shrikehollow are made of stone carved with intricate carvings and statuary, with ceramic tile roofs.
The houses are mostly single-story, multi-unit complexes. Most of the kitchens for these complexes are outdoor either on patios to the side or in courtyards enclosed on all sides by the complex, to move heat sources outside of the main living area.
