Doloros

Goddess of magic

Knowledge is beauty. Curiosity is the door to higher mysteries. The arcane only reaches out to those that would knock.

Doloros, goddess of magic and beauty, is perplexing goddess, who is at once a deity of rigidity and form, but also as mutable and changing as the magic she wields.

Most worshipers agree that her rather indeterminate personality is a reflection of Doloros the Magician who wields the magic and moves and shapes it to her will (Lawful) and Doloros the Arcane, the manifestation of magic itself (chaotic).

Since most of her followers are magicians, they choose to see her as one of their own rather than the force that they bind to suit their own devices (it would be seen as disrespectful, they feel).

It is said that Doloros was the first god to be born on this plane, and that all others after her needed her magic in order to even be formed. How true that is, no one can know, but even if you don't worship her, it's generally considered good form to ask for her blessing before undertaking any casting of spells.

Physical Description

Body Features

Doloros is depicted most commonly as a beautiful woman with a waifish body, bright red, curly hair, and pale skin. As a goddess of magic and beauty, however, her form is mutable to whatever an artist may believe the most beautiful person to look like. In all cases, though, she will have an additional pair of eyes in her palms.

Apparel & Accessories

Doloros is usually depicted in a deep turquoise blue chiton, with gold jewelry (especially a lenza - a cord tied about the head with a jewel centered on the forehead above the eyes). She is generally depicted wearing many rings or hand jewelry, and always has on gold armbands.

Gender Identity

Doloros is nominally worshipped as a female deity, but it is not uncommon to see her worshipped as a male or even genderless being.

Commonalities & Shared Interests

The goddess of illusions cannot help but stand in the shadow of the goddess of magic herself.   But Doloros sees Rochambeau as akin to a daughter to her. A petulant, disobedient daughter, but not one she can't handle.   Rochambeau delights in pushing and needling at Doloros - so long as Doloros doesn't react. The game isn't nearly as fun when Doloros snaps and puts Rochambeau in timeout for a bit. It tends to cause the younger goddess to pout quite a bit.

One of Doloros's cults is the Mavens, located in Shrikehollow. They are known for their dark blue cloaks with interiors that are silver-embroidered with stars designs, charting the heavens in a way only they know. Each one is unique, and the Mavens can identify each other just by catching glimpses of the map and constellations in the lining of their cloaks.
