Beastfolk

Classification Term, derogatory

Beastfolk is a term most commonly used to describe humanoids that resemble beasts or monstrosities by their outward appearance. The classification is most commonly used by humans, dwarfs, some of the elves, halflings and occasionally by the rock gnomes.

Classification itself is tricky and unhelpful at its best and down right insulting and racist at its worst, not to mention how the broadness of the term makes it very hard to define.

It is easy to argue that most if not all humanoids have some resemblance to non-humanoid creatures, diluting the word even further. Even among the races that that use the term do not always agree on which races it should be used on: goblinoids, orcs and tieflings are just some of the few humanoid races on which there is no common consensus about.

Term "beastfolk" tends to carry derogatory implications, but it isn't always so. Some races deemed as part of the "beastfolks" carry the name as a badge of honour, while others find it incredibly insulting.

Yeah, I can see why the term 'beastfolk' would be derogatory. I like that some species have reclaimed it, though! :D
