The Eldest child of Maelon and Ashara Valyr was a serious and studious child whenever he wasn't bickering with his younger sister Maelena, but this serious side didn't prevent him from exuding a charisma that made the young generation of the Valyr family and their followers look up to him as a leader. It was clear he lacked talent in the money making business, which in the Valyr family pushed his education towards a Military focus. Maelor's education and training began from a young age, his rare enthusiasm fueled by stories from his parents, aunts and uncles' youths and he quickly showed his talents. Inheriting much of his Mother's wisdom and Father's leadership. While not the best warrior, he was capable enough to deal with most who sought him out and he made up for what he lacked physically, as a strategist and leader that the soldiers under him would die for even as a young teen. Things would change drastically for him on his 15th Name day. The day he lost almost everything. After that day, Maelor became less outspoken and even colder to the outside, never celebrating his Name Day again. However this strangely didn't affect his charisma as a future commander as his supportive actions for those who served under him said more than words ever could. He particularly gained popularity with the various Slave soldiers under the Valyr family, who he treated equally to all other soldiers under his command, even going so far as to live and travel under the same conditions himself during expeditions in the post Doom world in which he now found himself. Maelor's Rite of Passage took him North where he created a small resistance group that acted against the Dothraki's westward incursion. Though he couldn't take direct action in their expansion for a myriad of reasons, he and his followers harassed supply lines and evacuated many victims giving their group and the survivors of Volantis a positive reputation across Essos.
