Purnesi
Purnesi are anthropomorphic rabbit folk, originally from the far lands of the Drakor Isles, also known as the “Dragon Isles”. They are the descendants of human settlements along the southern island chain that survived a lycanthropy flu pandemic known as the ‘Rasping Rage’. In their case, the Rasping Rage took the nature of a kounanthrope, or were-rabbit.
These survivors could not return to their original form. No combination of medical magic or science could alter their transformation. The disease forever altered them, transforming the survivors into a new species.
However, a vaccine was developed to stop the spread of the Rasping Rage once it was realized the virus resulted from an incomplete, badly formatted, genetic enchantment experiment that had escaped a laboratory. With the Rasping Rage eliminated, survivors rebuilt their lives. Centuries later, the purnesi are one of the more well known ‘Beast folk’ on Illuria and many other of the former Core Worlds of the old Coalition.
Traits of the Bloodline
The purnesi are near-human or humanoid in appearance with the same upright, humanoid shape along with male and female genders. However, the similarities end there as they are anthropomorphic or chimera-hybrid of humans with strong rabbit characteristics.
Members of this species have elongated feet and digitigrade leg shapes common to the ‘beast-folk’. They are covered in a fine fur but their hands are not paws, but more human-like with four fingers and an opposable thumb. Head and facial structure are that of a rabbit, only proportioned for a human-sized frame. This includes the muzzle, teeth, long ears and whiskers. The last of the alterations is that they have a rabbit's tail.
Purnesi fur colors range from white to gray-brown. As they age, the fur does slowly turn black. Their eye color is limited to brown, amber, or black. Their eyesight does not differ from a human yet their hearing far surpasses any other species. Some say that a purnesi can hear the softest whisper from across a crowded room.
