Skyreach

Purpose / Function
According to religious historians, Skyreach (a bastardized translation of the ancient indigenous south Flavian language Auraën word that loosely translates to "Union of Sky and Earth") was constructed as a temple of dual worship. The prehistoric people that lived in the area were devout worshippers of the original two gods in accordance with the contemporary Creation myth - Trøglav and Iriyone - and thus sought to build a structure in worship of them. Archaeologists surmise that these individuals sought out the tallest possible peak within the modern Flavian Landmass to build their famous ziggurat.
Alterations
The most major alteration to Skyreach occurred towards the end of the first millennium, when historical evidence indicates that the original inhabitants seemingly added a deity to their dual faith, as significant alterations were made to the sculptures and friezes of the temple. The third figure had two faces, and is seemingly a representative of the Duality god Praxidus.
In addition to the changes of art and symbol, a basement layer was carved into the mesa below the ziggurat. Upon archaeologists' rediscovery of the ziggurat in the early days of Vermilisian unity (circa 6200 BM), they discovered a vast catacomb system that descended from the top of the mile-high mesa to almost the middle, where it abruptly stops.
Architecture
The ancient Flavians used rounded, oven-baked bricks of clay and sandstone to structure the ziggurat. More recent study has uncovered that the interior was once possibly painted and lacquered with gorgeous coloration from local plant dyes and paints, but these colors have since faded away thanks to millennia of disuse.
Tourism
Skyreach is a popular tourist destination for the hardiest of Zancleans, as there is no easy method of transportation up the mesa. Individuals from Flaviae's capital city often brag about their ventures to Skyreach, fabricating ghost stories about spirits they found deep inside of the catacombs (despite never going any further than the ziggurat).
