Hisberian Wastes

Geography

A large, grey expanse that covers a large part of eastern Hisberia, from the Quebon province to the border with Syroxia. The region is filled with various mesas and hoodoos. A few rivers run westward from the Buskov Mountains, leaving deposits of clay and gravel where the little life that occupies the Wastes survive.

Fauna & Flora

The flora of the Wastes grows mostly around the rivers flowing through it. Tough scrubby bushes are the largest vegetation that grow. The tops of the mesas are often covered with grasses. Very few trees manage to take root. Most woody plants are bleached dry by the sun and wind before having a chance to bloom. Although large life is scarce in the badlands, herds of desert yaks and herbivorous saurids do make the region their home. A few packs of displacer beasts roam in from the neighbouring savannah in search of food, but none live permanently. The top of the food chain is occupied by wyverns, which make their nests at the highest pinnacles of rock formations. They are mostly solo hunters, poaching fish from the rivers, but when more substantial prey attempts to cross the Wastes, they will form flocks to hunt it down. The region is notorious among those who live along its boundaries for the werebears who can be incredibly destructive if not necessarily malicious.
