Session 34 - Plots Unravel, and Thicken
General Summary
Lord Ingo’s Errands in Drachenstelle
After seeing the unicorn and while returning to the castle, Kaleb explained to Lord Ingo about how he was initially afraid that Dagobert von Linz was a doppelganger and that caused him to stab Dagobert out of fear. As Lord Ingo pressed for further answers, Kaleb elaborated that the fear was because he had seen a smiling face in the ceiling of the dungeon beneath the castle. Lord Ingo asked Kaleb to show him the location where the face was seen after he went to speak with Winifred, and so Kaleb went to the dungeon to await Lord Ingo’s arrival.
Winifred was approached by a servant while in her quarters who informed her that Lord Ingo wished to speak with her in the scriptorium. Wearing a veil to hide her blue skin, Winifred went into the scriptorium. There, Lord Ingo went on to describe how he planned to exile those currently in the dungeon. He further explained that with Mechtild and Rodrick confessing that they had dealings with a devil, they would be in great danger if they were to say the same amongst his associates.
Down in the Dungeon
While in the dungeon awaiting the judgment of Ingo the Pious, Mechtild told Rodrick that she thinks Lord Ingo will side with her and work within the terms of her bargain with the devil. Rodrick pointed out that this was a terrible idea as Lord Ingo is a devout member of the Ecumenical Church as well as a destroyer of evil. Therefore, if anything, Mechtild was likely to meet a grizzly end.
As the two bickered, Kaleb arrived in the dungeon stating that he was looking for the face he had fought off before. As Kaleb was looking, Lord Ingo arrived and informed the prisoners that he was letting them free, but that they must leave the estate forever.
Winifred’s Conversations
While tarrying in the castle, Dagobert went to speak with Winifred. As he approached, Winifred accused Dagobert of being the one who assigned Alicia to tend to her needs. Given Alicia's betrayal, Dagobert confessed to feeling extremely regretful about what has occurred, but said he believes he has made the deal to make it up to Winifred. He turned the discussion about and informed Winifred of the deal where if she were to marry Lord Ingo, he would gain all of her ancestral lands but her children would be in line for the inheritance of Ingo’s estates. Winifred seemed to warm to this plan and, knowing that her people would be released from the dungeon soon, decided to go speak with them before they left Drachenstelle.
Rodrick, Uisce, and Mechtild approached Winifred to discuss what the next action should be while in her service. Winifred told the crew that she planned to marry Ingo, but that she would need their help after that. She explained that she wants to flee Drachenstelle immediately after the wedding, at which point she will release the members from her service. After speaking with Mechtild, Uisce, and Rodrick, Winifred told Kaleb that he needed to do everything to bother Dagobert. Finally, Winifred went and spoke with Ingo, informing him that she would marry him and wished for the ceremony to take place immediately, and so they were to be wed on the day of Walpurgisnacht.
Closing Conflicts
Kaleb, eager to bother Dagobert, went to draw on Dagobert’s door using the soot he scraped from his fireplace. He succeeded in drawing a terrible and vulgar image. One of Drachenstelle’s servants noticed the image and tried to stop Kaleb; however, the servant was unable to stop Kaleb and so ran off to tell Dagobert what Kaleb had done.
Meanwhile, Mechtild, Rodrick, and Uisce were released from the dungone and ordered to leave Drachenstelle. As they sought to treavel south, they came across a lot of pretty flowers, which Rodrick picked one and gave it to Uisce. Toward evening, the three then come across a tree crossing their path, where they are then met by a man of unkempt image who tells them they are heading in the wrong direction. The potential bandit then told Uisce that she was not as pretty as she thought, and so a fight broke out, where two additional bandits began firing arrows from positions in the tree. While fighting started, the first man transformed into a wererat, informing the group of their imminent danger.
