Coral Gate
The Coral Gate is by far the grandest gate in the Gathetoken City Wall.
The gatehouse has 4 Porters and 6 Watchmen.
Purpose / Function
The Coral Gate provides secure passage through the Gathetoken City Wall for the North Road. It also acts as the Watchhouse for the Coral Gate District and the Barracks for the wall-guard on the northern sections of the wall.
Alterations
The Barbican, with its ballista platforms, is a later addition included when the gate was remodelled and transformed from a purely practical defensive structure into the grand magnificence that it is today.
Architecture
This gate includes not only the main gate tower, but also a barbican. The approach to the Gatehouse is across a viaduct spanning the ditch, through the Barbican Gate, over a drawbridge and into the main gate. The entire structure is decorated with Corals and Shells and stands out in pinks and browns and mother-of-pearl against the cream and red of the Sandstone banded Limestone walls.
