Session 3 - The Discrete Charms of Zmiihorod
General Summary
Anna approaches with screaming kids. Says she saw the body! Anna wants us to find Khoma. Anna says she knows secrets about Irina.
Khoma’s wife Tatiana said husbands sometimes travelled to Yasnyi. Mishka and Grishka are his drinking drinking buddies there.
Magistrate is located Zmiihorod. Located south, south east. Yasnyi is on the way. We get on the sled and head out to Yasnyi. We get there and meet with the 2 guys. They offer me an item for trade. A toy. Carving of man and bear hammering. I bless him with my branch.
We travel on to Zmiihorod. The gate is closed and we have to pay to get in. We try to see the magistrate but no luck.
Irina and I meet Vashti. Says to seek her out tomorrow. She looks at my hands for signs of working man. Vashti claims to see the future and does tricks. Says our tomorrow meeting will go bad. I find out I’m in the wrong city. Crap. I primp myself and we go to find the rest of the group.
Davajaav is confronted by three armed men accusing him of entering illegally. Men claim to be city watch. Accuse him of spying. He, Lada and Ivan get wrapped up in combat with the watch. They are knocked out and left for dead in an alley. Davajaav recovers and finds me and Irina. All three are robbed of coin. Everyone goes to the nearest church, looking for a priest. Father Afanasii helps us and directs us to a hostel.
We don’t have enough money so I propose entertaining the people in hopes to earn coin. My playing gets the attention of Tikhon Vasilievich, the majordomo of prince Mikhailo. He invites us in to stay. There is a vast spread of food and drink with important people. The rest of the party arrives. Vashti is summoned to help Lada. Then helps Davajaav. Davajaav is looking for magic. Spirits. Vashti informs us that the rulers are not good people.
The majordomo asks for me to perform. Tells me he will introduce me to the prince and make connections for trade. Wants me to reproduce books in their language and share other culture. Seems to want me to stay long term but I explain that I cannot stay indefinitely. I ask for an audience with the magistrate for Irina. We get an audience the next day but they can’t help much. Laws about church and state. He suggests hiring a mercenary. We return to our quarters. I request pen and paper to write a letter home. Ivan seeks out firewood. A bit of an obsession with him.
