Lada Kolova (LA*dah* KOL*oh*vah)

Lada is a young baker from Aleksandrovka. She is the village healer - a gift she inherited from her grandmother. Along with the gift, she also inherited a hut and a compound on the outskirts of the village after her the grandmother died. 
The attitudes to Lada on the part of the villagers are mixed. On the one hand, her grandmother was certainly seen as peculiar, and said to have dealings with Nechist' of various kinds. The fact that Lada remains unmarried at 18 also raises more than a few eyebrows. On the other hand, Lada is a genius baker, and her pies and pastries are always in high demand, helping to support Lada as a single woman. Her knowledge of local herbs is unparalleled, and even the nuns, who prefer the villagers to come to them with various maladies, defer to her knowledge of medicinal teas. 
Of late, Hegumenia Marfa seems to have set her mind to having Lada wed Ivan, a young man raised at the convent orphanage, and just starting his independent life.
