House Velostran
House Velostran is one of the oldest and most reclusive noble houses in Cromital, widely recognized for its magocratic elitism and historical ties to powerful—but controversial—forms of arcana. Once infamous for experiments in blood magic, the house now projects an image of refined academic excellence, serving as patrons of the Arcane Vigil and advocates for arcane law and order.
Within their towering estate arcane energies flicker behind tinted crystal windows, and whispers speak of secret rituals in its shadowed lower halls. Though the house publicly distances itself from the "Crimson Practices" of its past, none have forgotten the rumors of soul-tithing, life siphons, and ritual branding that once stained their name.
Structure
- Archmagus Valcuran Velostran (Patriarch) – A master of abjuration and bloodline wards, Valcuran is rarely seen outside their estate. His body is covered in protective runes that glow when he speaks. He speaks rarely, but when he does, nobles and mages alike listen.
- Lieris Velostran (Daughter & Envoy) – A striking, sharp-tongued diplomat, Lieris conducts most external dealings. She serves as a liaison to the Arcane Vigil and often attends public events to counteract the house’s darker reputation.
- Sarith Velostran (Younger Son) – A recluse obsessed with magical genealogy, Sarith experiments with lineage, magical traits, and ancient tomes said to map magical bloodlines like family trees.
- Valken Velostran (Cousin, Former Crimson Scholar) – Once cast out for practicing blood magic, Valken has returned under mysterious terms. It’s whispered that his exile had more to do with internal politics than his crimes.
Public Agenda
- Patrons of the Arcane Vigil: House Velostran provides both funding and personnel to Cromital’s Arcane Vigil, ensuring they wield significant influence over magical law enforcement. Several of their own blood serve as vigilants.
- Magocratic Supremacists: House Velostran maintains that those without arcane talent are unfit to govern, and they lobby (often successfully) for policies favoring spellcasters over martial nobles, including expanding the use of Cryo-mithral.
