The Arcane Vigil is an order of spellcasters dedicated to the protection and prosperity of Cromital. The Vigil operates as the magical side of a city guard, blending enforcement of arcane laws with the defense of the city from external and internal threats. Their diverse magical abilities and strict organizational structure make them an essential part of Cromital’s functioning and survival.
Structure and Ranks
- High Conservator - The supreme leader of the Arcane Vigil, responsible for the strategic direction and management of the guild. Serves as an advisor to Cromital's king on magical and defensive matters with the Nightfeathers
- Master - A council of senior leaders who oversee major divisions, such as city defense, magical research, and law enforcement. Each Master specializes in a specific area, such as abjuration for shielding the city or divination for intelligence gathering.
- Arcanist - Experienced spellcasters who lead squads of mages in field operations. Responsible for training new recruits, investigating significant magical disturbances, and leading during large-scale conflicts.
- Vigilant - The backbone of the Arcane Vigil, these skilled mages handle daily operations such as patrolling the city, resolving magical disputes, and maintaining Cromital’s arcane wards. Vigilants are versatile, proficient in both combat magic and protective spells.
- Apprentice - Novices undergoing rigorous training in spellcasting, city law, and tactical operations. Assigned to Vigilants or Arcanists to learn through observation and practice.
- Stewards - Non-combatant members who focus on administrative tasks, artifact crafting, and the maintenance of the Vigil’s library of spells and magical records. Often provide logistical support during large-scale operations.
