House Harvundr
House Harvundr is one of the oldest noble houses of the Snowcloak Dominion, stationed in Whittlestead, a cold and stoic mountain city that serves as the Dominion’s easternmost outpost. Their solemn duty—and the foundation of their noble charter—is a binding oath to protect the eastern pass, a perilous and wind-scoured mountain corridor that winds down from the Silvercliff range to the Prost Ocean. This passage links Whittlestead to the eastern ocean, making it vital for maritime trade, military mobilization, and long-range communication. It also leads right to the doorstep of the Wyrmspine Ridge where the Skjolgardt lay anchor, ensuring the region sees a great amount of bloodshed.
Though little-known in the courts of Cromital and overshadowed by wealthier houses, House Harvundr commands great respect for their unbroken vigilance and honor-bound legacy. Their ancestral keep, stands at the midpoint of the eastern pass—part fortress, part monastery, and fully steeped in tradition.
They have little interest in political games, maintaining only what influence is required to fulfill their oaths. Harvundr knights often live and die at their posts, and their ranks are filled with soldiers, wardens, and judges rather than merchants or courtiers.
Structure
- Lord Frandar Harvundr (Patriarch) – A frost-weathered veteran and keeper of the oath. Frandar’s gruff wisdom has kept his house united through storms, corruption, and isolation. He is considered a living relic of the Dominion's founding days.
- Lady Kethra Harvundr (His sister) – Former pass-warden turned steward of Whittlestead’s archives. She maintains the ancient records of Harvundr oaths, and many say she remembers every name and every promise sworn in the last century.
- Jorund Harvundr (Frandar’s son and heir) – A towering presence with a cold demeanor, Jorund leads the Stormmarch Wardens, the martial force that patrols the eastern pass. His justice is swift, and his blade never falters.
- Brynna Harvundr (Jorund’s daughter) – A quiet scholar of arcane traditions and history, she is torn between her family's rigid traditions and the allure of the wider world. She secretly studies ancient magical seals carved into the pass centuries ago, believing they guard something more than mere weather.
Culture
Harvundr culture is one of stoic devotion, sparse comforts, and sacred duty. Every family member, regardless of station, is trained in mountain survival, law, and warfare. Their doctrines teach that the eastern pass is holy ground, where life and death are weighed in balance. The family believes each traveler must be tested—not merely for legality, but for worth.
Their creed, the Twin Judgment, teaches that every soul must pass two trials: one in life, judged by duty and courage, and one in death, judged by the Divine. Harvundr warriors often serve as spiritual examiners, interpreters of signs, and enforcers of justice, standing as both guardians and judges in one of the Dominion’s harshest corridors.
