To Samga

First emperor's love letter.

"Be very careful your highness. This letter is very, very old. If you want to see the words of your ancestor, you could read a copy of it.   Yes, I understand. It isn't the same if you can't see the quality and emotion in the writing itself.

In Case it Can't Be Said Later

Before the fateful battle in which he was captured, Temur Dodai sent a letter back to his home village. This was a crucial moment in the campaign and the future emperor did not want anyone to know he was thinking of anything other than the mission so he had the letter sent in secret.   This letter was addressed to Samga for whom Temur had long harbored strong feelings. The letter was sent in secret to keep the troops mind at ease but the letter was only sent to put his own mind at ease. At least if he didn't survive - which he nearly would not - she would know how he had felt about her all this time.

Cultural Impact

While the content of the letter would never reach the general public, the existence of the letter did. This led to interest in the romantic lives of the royal family. Such interest has always been unrequited as the family has kept its affairs private except for big ceremonial events. Speculation about their personal lives - as long as it doesn't sully the reputation of the royals - is allowed, perhaps even encouraged.

The Imperial Library

Inside the Imperial Palace there is a library that contains - among other things - the oldest documents in the empire. It is in this room that Temur Dodai's love letter is stored.   While it is not the oldest document, it is the oldest love letter that is still intact.
