The Wash Away

Great landslide of Burim.

"My ancestor saw it happen. A terrifying sight as the land itself began to shift and slide, quicker and quicker, picking up trees, rocks, homes, everything in its path. Then once it had all fallen off the edge into the sky, silence."

Before History

During the Time of Darkness the storms of the Floor rose up and covered Breharan is clouds, rain, and darkness. There is not much written history from the time but the oral stories tell of a flood where the land itself slid off the island. Scholars believe it was likely caused by a combination of wet ground from the plentiful rains of the era and a sudden surge from water when an ice dam broke in the highlands. This surge ripped the surface off of much of the area of central Burim.

The Consequences

Much of the once arable land now had too little soil to grow many crops and others areas were tinged red with rust where deposits of iron once deep under the surface were now barely covered. This still limits the agricultural power of the nation but has provided it with a valuable source of metal.   What most people are worried about is what would remain if it happened again. Since the first disaster sent dirt and trees flooding off the side of the skyisland which can now never be replaced, lost forever to the Void. With the trees that normally ring the island gone and no soil for new ones to grow, there is nothing to hold the ground in place and could lead to the erosion of the surrounding areas as well.

The Mud Pits

In the upper part of Burim lie the Great Mud Pits, seasonal lakes where the disenfranchised live. Without much arable land and the cost of city life increasing, some flee to this region to eek out a living. These are the Muck Drudgers.
