"I- Is that what I think it is?"
"Depends what you think it is." replied Javen wryly, earning a returning glare from Erevard.
"It looks like a flying lake."
"That's no lake, that's a sea." declared Captain Davetti as he appeared behind them.
A Form Without Boundaries
Bodies of water conform to the land around them and the ground beneath them; the Skysea shuns such logic and defies all explanation. It is an incredibly massive body of water - larger even than the waters of
Tamazee - that simply exists in the skies as if it were a skyisland.
Not much is known about the sea as it is located beyond the limit of navigation on the
Explorer's Way. Basic observations have noted that the lower waters are dark, the form seems to be steady as if it were held inside of an invisible seabed, and it - like most skyislands - is not stationary.
A Sea of Life
The Skysea is home to many species of birds, fish, and
skyfish. The birds are mostly water fowl, those that are able to conserve energy by floating on the gentle waves of the sea. One of the many types of fish has been observed jumping out of the waters in large groups for an unknown reason.
The species of
skyfish that live around it are uniquely adapted to switch between flight in the air and swimming in the water. They will perform a maneuver similar to some predatory birds in which they will fly very quickly at the water, breach the surface, and grab their prey between their unusually large teeth.

Where No Brine Lays
Unlike the waters of
Tamazee which are said to be the tears of
Astrenza the Skysea is a huge body of freshwater.
The usable water and plentiful food sources of the sea make it an ideal location for people to settle. The only problems are the distance from
Breharan and the lack of any land whatsoever.
"When the light hits it just right, doesn't the sea itself look like a creature from here? A monster even?"— Javen Kolos to Oyun Zayany
