Avani Trade Tower

Avani, in its brief time as the largest port in Levis and the major centre of trade in Oceanus has had two sound towers to keep its traders from the roots that web between the islands of the Sunken Isles. Both based off the tower based at Waverly point , the second stands tall over the tip of the island, while its brother has a new use.

The first Avani Sound tower was built, further inland, on the volcano that serves as centrepiece for the island. It was however small shifts in the volcano due to low levels of geological activity that dislodged the bud of the tower from the mountain before it could see more than the barest use. With its root package damaged, the building should have seen rot and that would have been the end of it, except for the Whisperling population growing on the other side of the island.

With several new alterations, the Whisperlings now use the core of the sound tower as the hub around which the spokes of the trade tower now exists.

This tower is core to diplomacy between Avani and the Rebellion, as the trade officials of the tower work to convert excess and product of the archipelago community into capital with which to trade for things that the community needs to be distributed back, and all the White foam that produces.

Purpose / Function

The trade tower houses the 2 to 3 smaller whisperling packs needed to both organise moving of supplies and to hand the logistics of records keeping and of storage and communication of the deals between port and rebellion. Given the current lack of access to Binding technology, the records are inscribed upon plucked leaves and marked with the White foam required to mark it official.

Alterations

With the hollowed sound tower in the centre, Whisperling construction has built three tripod legs in a curved design to hoist it up. Small walkways and platforms honeycomb the centre of the tower, which is almost archology sized for the teacup sized units inside the pack. The circuit inside is damaged, although the aquatic plants have been preserved and act as a power source for many smaller and more humble spells that make the trade tower run.

Most notable is the patterning of the walkways, built out from the inner walls in multiple diamonds and laced with color from imbibing different minerals before the regurgitation process. (Whisperlings construction coming from consuming materials and binding them in their gut with stomach acid and mucus to form a unique solid - tooltip later) The inside is a massive coloured pattern, that would be spectacular to behold - should any stranger be able to or be allowed to see it. Outside is kept deliberately white, including the preserving layer over the sound tower core, in an attempt to prevent decay.

I love that the Whisperlings have taken over a tower that would have otherwise rotted away. That's a really cool thing in your world.

Thank you so much for participating in Marchitecture! The winner has been selected and announced on the Marchitecture article and community post, but I wanted to leave a comment to appreciate all the runners up, as it was TOUGH competition omg   I really found the Alterations to the original structure to be fascinating! It's a great and concise article on this really cool piece of architecture, and I think it's really well done.

And...   Here is your lovely badge as well, which you can place anywhere you like with the img code:   [img:6390178]   Thanks once again for joining in :D

You're an architect, what would you have added to it?

Haha, not an architect yet -- just an Intern Architect for now! (It's silly, but I am legally distinct from an Architect until I have completed my internship)   I'm not sure, to be honest. I love the info on the unique construction material, and some more information on that would be really cool! Perhaps even some diagrams of how that material forms a certain texture, or how it binds other things together -- how is stuff added to the wall on top, if the wanted to? Architecturally, I always love section views and floor plans, if you want something that is specific to what an Architect would love to see. I think an image showing a section-cut through the middle of the tree, looking at that cross-section, would be particularly cool honestly!   All the same though, this was already great as is and you should definitely be happy with it.   Thanks for joining in!
