MindTek

CyberTek allows communication and control of information based systems. MindTek allows neural interfacing with devices for various effects which duplicate or amplify psionic effects. It falls into three broad realms: PsiTek are devices which can simulate Psionic activities, including giving defenses. BoosTek enhances psionic activity.   The first successful experiments take place at T1; the devices were bulky room-sized devices which were thought to amplify and stimulate latent psionic ability. It was later found that the builders had accidentally stumbled onto QT particles which are the actual particle manipulated by psions. Whether actual psions existed before being tested and pushed by MindTek devices is undisclosed. However, there are now actual Psions who have a significant spectrum of abilities.   QT particles, once scientists knew what to look for, were relatively easy to locate and harness. Devices capable of detecting QT particles are capable at T1, and it’s a skill that every junior scientist learns.   The most important reason for public knowledge of the existence of Psions is that they are the only ones able to navigate hyperdrive capable vessels. All psions are required to be registered, educated, and have Esoteric Profession Signifiers displayed upon their IDCwear.

CyberTek

At T-1, crude Cybernetic research is the precursor to true utilization of CyberTek as the medical realm sought ways to develop protsthetic devices which could be directly controlled by the central nervous system.   CyberTek allows the user to directly interface with an information system, greatly multiplying the efficiency of use and the speed with which data is processed and manipulated. At the extreme end, CyberTek devices places the user(s) in the Cyber Realm, a place not well understood, with many inherent dangers. It also allows for a near casual ability to hack systems. Fortunately, true cyberpaths, who can bypass the use of devices altogether, connecting directly to information systems using their mind, are extremely rare.   At T1, CyberTek allows for effective Direct machine to Neural Interface applications, though it requires permanent implants in the CNS and the invasiveness can produce TechnoPsychosis in some.    At T3, the Bonding is non invasive due temporary nanite implacement which greatly reduce the chance of TechnoPsychosis. These systems are expensive but effective (but relatively available in a Post Scarcity Economy of the Federacy's size).

PsiTek

Devices granting effectual psionic abilities in the Telepath and Clairvoyant realms exist. At T1, they are room sized. At T2 the devices are suit sized and require significant power to use and the abilities expand to Telekinetic hurling and disruption (no real fine control available). At T3, the devices are much smaller and are capable of emulating Telekinetic abilities assisted by directive grav control modules. Some wear them as “headbands” and they are usually powered by Excellsiors. There was hope that this would reduce the dependence on actual Clairvoyants for interstellar travel, but there seems to be a much higher instance of Hypernavigation Fatigue for those who navigate using MindTek. At T4, the higher incidence of Hypernavigation Fatigue is greatly reduced, and esoteric psionic abilities can be duplicated.

BoosTek

The difference between PsiTek and BoosTek is small, but discomforting and not general knowledge: BoostTek is about boosting the ability of active Psions. A boosted Psion is capable of frightening things and it’s rumored that some have found ways to get around being detected. Of course, this is strictly a rumor.
