TechnoPsychosis

A condition where neural linking with computer systems causes the user to become irratic and unstable.   At T0, the condition is very common due to the infancy of MindTek; T1 it's Rare, at T2 Very Rare, and T3 virtually unheard of due to nanite Bonding techniques.

Causes

Resoni minds bonding with computer systems is seen as a natural progression of efficiency, allowing large swaths of data to be processed and communicated while being overseen by a human mind. Unfortunately, the Resoni mind (and all Resoni species seem to have remarkable similarly minds at many levels) processes infomation in a significantly different fashion than computer system. As one MindTek theorist put it, "The Resoni mind as a fact seems to be commanded to live and experience reality, computers are commanded to process reality as a matter of fact." Thus, Computer/Neural operating systems require significant remapping for it to comfortably make sense to the mind and safely allow for the greatest possible integration into the ongoing cognitive schema in a benevolent manner without rejection, skewing, or over-immersion leading to psychic enmeshment.   Given the uniqueness of each mind, it is challenging to anticipate or effectively cover the necessary parameters in an operation system leading to healthy bonding. In some persons, the parameters are too far beyond the ability of the system to compensate for and rejection, skewing, or over-immersion can and do result.

Symptoms

The physical manifestations of TechnoPsychosis tends to be consisten regardless of the variety (Rejection, Skewing, or Over-immersion), the recipient may experience anything from nothing, to a mild headache, to an intense desire to rip the meshpoints from their body (extremely rare). Over or under stimulation of various systems can also occur, especially those linked to the adrenal system.   Rejection: The most common symptom is a system error which shuts it down without causing damage to the recipient.  For the recipient, rejection can bring about different mindsets which typically fade quickly, but the most common set of sensations are similar to being let down or rejected by an associate or even close friend. Thus a wide range of reactions are possible.   Skewing: Essentially, the recipient is hallucinating. Inconsistent/incoherent overlays, causing every possible combination of sensory impression can occur, though neural interface systems are programmed normally to not include taste and smell components. However, when skewing occurs, in some people, the recipient's own mind is attempting to make sense of their altered reality and may substitute actual memories in order to compensate.    Over-immersion: One of the key safeguards against TechnoPsychosis is length of exposure. Overexposure occurs when the mind is hypersaturated with sensations which are not its own. The potential responses are miriad, but for many it becomes addictive, with desires to stay in the immersed state. "Swimming" in pools of mathematical calculations, for example, can be an incredible sensory thrills to an advanced Theoretical Mathematician. Another symptom is referring to your Persona as a seperate entity. While no clear understanding has occurred for this, it seems related to ancient psychotic tendencies.
