Nera Arrighetti-Sarren

Half-elven, born 1313 AK in Sassenheim; her family have connections to the rath of Lith Kala. Enlisted as a bondsoldier in the Second Cohort Naval Infantry in 1329 AK, having lied about her age; saw combat in the Battle of the Karst  in 1331 AK and was taken prisoner by the Savurans. Escaped from the rebels in 1333 AK and made her way across the border with several others; recruited by the Queensknife on her arrival in Auditore. Assigned to field office in Cameri; played a major role in an investigation which brought down a dangerous cult in the city, for which she was anointed a Banner-Knight of House Sarren in recognition of her courage. Aided in the evacuation of several high-ranking nobles from Cameri during the siege of 1339 AK; then reassigned to Gildenschloss and promoted to the rank of Knight-Intelligencer in 1340.

Talents and Abilities

Although she received little formal education (and, notably, no training in magic whatsoever), Nera is a skilled intelligence analyst and field agent. She is understood to be a woman of many talents, some of which are such things as lockpicking, pickpocketing, and forgery; and has a talent for being able to rapidly internalise and assess large amounts of information. She is also a crack shot with a crossbow, and a skilled sword-fighter.

Regrets and Lies

Shortly after her reassignment to Gildenschloss, Nera's talent for forgery was pressed into service by Castellan-Regent Guillaume Arthmael-Riddacci. She was asked to copy an intercepted letter from Princess Beatrix Bheuren van Crassen to Motion Ashbrook-Sarren, and rewrite it so as to make it clear that Beatrix wished to end her relationship with Motion, in as emotionally-devastating a way as possible. When she raised concerns about this, she was told that it was for the good of Aldernord - moreover, Guillaume revealed that he was aware that Nera's brother was involved in an illegal operation to help fugitive serfs and others cross the border to Savura, and threatened to have him arrested on charges of treason if she didn't cooperate.   Resentfully, Nera did as she was ordered, lying to herself that it was for the greater good of Aldernord but knowing in her heart that such an act of petty cruelty was wrong; her involvement is not, as yet, known to either Beatrix or Motion, though Nera has expressed the intention to come clean to Beatrix when the time seems right. The guilt that she felt over this led her to go out of her way to help and support Beatrix when the princess came of age and was sent to join the Queensknife as "Beatitude".

Right-Hand of the Queensknife

Following Guillaume Arthmael-Riddacci's attempted coup against Princess Beatrix Bheuren van Crassen, Nera found herself in an unexpected position of authority; as Marcello Argiola-Sarren, Guillaume's second-in-command, had died in the expedition to Kab Melekh, she was one of the highest ranking officers of the Queenknife at Gildenschloss. She rapidly made herself indispensable to Princess Beatrix, and whilst she has not yet formally been offered the rank, has become de-facto Steward-General of the Gildenschloss commandery.
