Sassenheim
Before the Long War, Sassenheim was a bustling and wealthy city, easily the equal of Valkenholt or Eldemaat, with ships departing daily from its harbours to far-flung lands and returning with all manner of exotic goods. But generations of war, and no small amount of politics, have reduced this once-great city to little more than so many acres of dereliction. Yet Sassenheim is proud, and holds its recent history with pride - this was the city which held when the near-unstoppable Savuran Eighth Army laid siege to it in 1341. Though the walls fell, the populace fought from street to street, and drove off the attacking army through sheer determination and bloody-mindedness; the Battle of Sassenheim marking the southernmost extent of the Savuran advance.
Two years on, the city is beginning to rebuild. A temple of Kriophona is nearing completion, the city's merchants are beginning to turn a profit once more, and there is talk of dredging the old harbour - in time, perhaps, the fortunes of Sassenheim shall rise once more.
