Pine Wood
Pine Wood is a very versatile material. It can be used in many different ways to achieve different things. It is commonly used as a building material for houses, vehicles, furniture, weaponry, scaffolding, floors, you name it. Even the lowest quality of pine wood can still be used as firewood, and even charcoal made from this wood is used by the dragonsteel blacksmiths for the production of dragonsteel blades, which are, aside from the silver and iron ore mined in the Silver Mountains, the other big part of the Silver Mountains' economy.
Properties
Physical & Chemical Properties
Pine wood is a good building material, but it is flammable.
Geology & Geography
Different types of pine wood can be found nearly everywhere, if pines grow there, which is basically everywhere, but the Silver Mountains are particularly known for the good quality pine wood that can be harvested there.
History & Usage
Everyday use
It can be used as firewood, as a building material or as an art medium, just to name a few possible uses. It is, for example, commonly used for building houses or furniture. In the Silver Mountains it is also used for added stability in the mines due to its special properties. It is very stable but works with subtle shifts in temperature and moisture. It also has the property of something like an early warning system since pine wood creaks before it breaks and thereby warns miners if a shaft is about to collaps.
Reusability & Recycling
As pine trees grow and multiply, it is a renewable resource if used in normal amounts. Furthermore, old building wood of furniture can often be made into something else or, at the very least, be used as firewood.
