Uran Orcs Ethnicity in Lanternal | World Anvil

Uran Orcs

The Orcs native to Turla Varma have adapted their culture to better suit the harsh, frozen environment. Separated from their Turla Pann cousins by thousands of miles of mountainous terrain, their cultures are only able to meet along the coast of the Vuvik gulf.

Life on the Ice

Uran orcs have developed hundreds of tricks to survive on the coast of the Uran Ocean, but life is still a constant struggle. Hunting animals for food is as absolute for survival as avoiding Arctic Remorhaz, Behirs, and most horribly, the ice beasts the Urans named Caslots.   Uran culture relies on the ice as much as Yorwa groves shared by all orc ethnicities. Uran structures are built of lumber packed between layers of snow and compact ice. Clothing in Turla Varma is cut exclusively from leathers and furs of native fauna. Ceremonial garments are opulently decorated in the skins and bones of the Urans greatest enemies on the coast such as remorhaz fins, behir claws and teeth, and talismans carved from Caslot horns and tail spikes.

Variant Artificers

Artificers among the Uran clans have specialized in techniques used to keep their communities alive and warm. Like other artificer disciplines across orc cultures, the Urans tap into the natural spirits of the ice and permafrost to protect them from the environment. Special constructs such as heating cauldrons, vassal rods, and auto-torches are created and maintained by the clan's denizen artificers. Uran artificers rely on the natural resources they can acquire in the frozen wilds. In almost every aspect of their magical practices, Uran artificers utilize Gossic Moss as their primary regent.
