Chujarai

These are a smaller cousin to the Jarai. They live primarily in underground burrows, but also are known to have surface villages and tree dwelling groups. It is rare for the Chujarai to delve as deep as the Jarai do, and those who dwell in trees are usually small family units doing so for protection. They are a farming people who dwell as much in the sun as they do otherwise. They are found primarily in the northern Shadow Mountains, but there are tribes in the Strakko Mountains and the Ekbir ranges. The skin colouring of these people is usually fair, but may be tanned, or rarely darker. They have fair to dark hair, and eye colouring ranges the entire Human spectrum, with brown or hazel most common.

Society

of the Chujarai is very hidden and closed and varies greatly between those who dwell in different areas. All Chujarai are reputed to be pranksters, and this trait has saved them from enemies trespassing on their lands. They will employ magic as well as more mundane methods in playing their pranks. Usually harmless, they are designed to be fun or to discourage trespassing, but they may turn nasty to those who are adamant upon causing harm to the Chujarai. Shadow Range Chujarai are the freest and live in larger villages than do any others. These people are known to have Sorcerers and will work with the Weiß-Jarai peacefully. They fear greatly being preyed upon by nearby Gnar, Ogres, Goblins and Humans. These Chujarai are said to be excellent gardeners and tailors and have been known to produce superior jewellery and mechanical items. Strakko Chujarai are reclusive and suspicious. This is for good reason, as the larger races dwelling around them quite often prey them upon. Rarely good at any craft, they are usually nomadic, moving at least every few months. They do make some of the best thieves and spies in the world. They are great liars and will never hesitate to do so to get out of tight situations. Despised and ignored by Ælfs, these people like the Ælfen people, for the Ælfs rarely harm them, and will usually simply ignore them. The Chujarai’s greatest enemies are Gnar and Jarai, the former will eat and enslave them, and the latter will kill or enslave them. Chujarai society often revolves around a dominant male clan head or chieftain. This clan leader is often a wizard and may have one or two advisors who are also wizards. Chujarai live in secluded valleys and on hidden mountainsides. Their homes are usually concealed underground, and their gardens are grown sporadically nearby. They will always have sentries posted and there are usually a couple or more good escape routes from any invasion that may happen. If they cannot bring their belongings with them, their property is usually destroyed as they leave. After all, why should the big people get things too easily?
