Session 31
In the aftermath of the conflict, the party collected themselves during a short reprieve and decided that it would be best to explore Melina's hovel quickly before leaving. Liaden O'Legal and Oryim took the lead with this while Sam Calas and Kalydin prioritised healing and aiding the injured, which consisted of mostly themselves.
As Liaden and Oryim explored the place, they eventually found an altar room. A stone altar protruded from a raised dias, small bottles and bowls rested upon it with the body of an elf chained to the cieling. The elf gasped as the party entered the room. They were a male, blindfolded and without arms or legs. The blindfold over their eyes appeared to be soaked with dried blood, and the chains wrapped around the stumped limbs of the tortured soul. A small wound was open on their abdomen, slowly dripping blood into the bowl placed on the altar.
They begged to be killed, to be free of the pain he had suffered. When asked who he was, he claimed to be Count Inchel Daedark II, Oryim's father. They also claimed to have been here, held captive and tortured for over 70 years. They freed the elf, taking some of the vials as proof as they then quickly retreated from the tower. Count Inchel II passed out, finally free of his bonds and was carried by Seraph. With their role in this place done, they walked away, leaving the silent glade behind them.
Several hours into their journey, they slowed pace, the wounds of the previous fight catching up with them. As they stopped to rest for a moment the sound of an arrow whistling through the air caught Liaden's attention before landing squarely into her shoulder. Reeling from the attack, the party scanned the forest, seeing a ranger approximately 200 feet away release two more shots. One went wide, landing in the trees behind Oryim while the other caught Liaden in the leg.
Pokziq 'Pox' Skirvet stepped forward, flicking his weapon into flamethrower mode and calling out to the assailant: If they didn't surrender, he would ignite the forest and burn it to the ground. The mood shifted, the party growing uneasy as they all watched the ranger flee into the foliage. Pox, seeing that as the assailant doubling down, pulled the trigger, shooting gouts of flame into the woods and igniting several of the ancient silverwood trees in an instant.
Shocked by this, the party called him out, Sam strode up to him and punched Pox across the jaw. All of these actions falling on deaf ears as Pox's vision glazed over and the smell of burning wood and fuel filled his senses. The party seeing the flames grow made the decision to flee, leaving Pox there in the blaze. After several minutes of running, the party could see the smoke billowing up and choking the edges of the sky and a loud explosion coming from where they knew pox was.
They ran for an hour, eventually reaching Silvaantar again. They saw rangers shouting and running into the woods, likely trying to stop the blaze. The ranger that received them, pressed them for information, Liaden stating that Pox had started the blaze. They caught site of Kujan, Liaden's cousin and ran over, trying to intercept him and fill him in on the details. As they did, his expression grew sombre. He asked where his parents were. Liaden had no answer and froze. He asked again, his voice a mix of disbelief and anger before turning and continuing on, ignoring the party.
Our heroes made their way to the centre of Sivaantar, where the druids were gathering. Middyr ushered them into the council chambers, where they met with ranger captain Liane Ardor. As they discussed what was happening, the druids drew up a ritual circle to control the weather, hoping to bring down a torrential rain and quench the growing blaze.
Captain Liane informed Liaden that, given that the rangers now know that Pox, a known outsider, started this fire, many of them now believed that outsiders never be welcomed to Silvaantar again. As Liaden looked around, she could see the disgusted looks the rangers were giving the party. She tried to ask if they would be able to identify the ranger that assaulted her. Liane looked sombre, with the situation as it is, and many rangers rushing to the scene of the fire to control it, some would likely die. Giving the party's assailant a perfect cover to escape.
With nothing further to say, the party left, reconviening at the Olive Branch. Liaden sent for a healer to tend to Count Inchel II's wounds. The party then discussed their next moves. Liaden, expressing her gratitude, said she had much to make up for and much left to do here. But Sam, Kalydin and Oryim were not welcome here anymore, and were therefore unsafe. Oryim decided to stay behind, claiming that he would wait for his father to awaken and enact his last will and testament before giving him the option of death, should he choose it.
With a heavy heart, our party disbanded foir the time being, resting for the evening and going their separate ways in the morning. Sam and Kalydin wandered through the woods back to Lakewood with their horses, Oryim remained in the Olive Branch, waiting for his father to wake up and Liaden returned to the orphanage to mend her relationship with Zilara and to start the work that needed to be done here in Silvaantar.
