Session 26

This chapter begins with our heroes travelling through the woods, trying to stay on a straight path towards Lakewood. From there it would be easier to travel to Silvaantar. Though the woods were dense and the breeze began to blow cold once again, they forged ahead. Liaden O'Legal, knowing the area better than the others, acted as their guide.

About a day's travel from Lakewood, the party encountered a mausoleum in the middle of a glade. Overgrown with moss and vegetation with elven text scribed upon the stone. They debated for a while on whether or not they should enter before ultimately agreeing that it was probably a bad decision to invade the resting place of the dead. That was, until, they heard a faint meowing coming from inside.

Curiously enough, it was Sam Calas who acted first. Waiting eagerly to see if a cat would emerge from the crypt. Eventually, one did. A black cat climbed to the entrance and sat there watching the party closely. A patch of white fur on its chest and its eyes a piercing green. It meowed again and Sam approached. The cat, apparently friendly, also approached and began to pur loudly. Strangely, it seemed to be leading our heroes into the crypt. Suddenly all previous conversations were forgotten. A kitty was saying it was okay so it must be fine.

Only Sam and Oryim enterred initially, though Kalydin did eventually follow them in too. The text on the walls was translated to be three family names of promenant elf families: 'Siltong,' 'Sada' and 'Tase.' Each name had a series of coffins beneath it, with various offerings placed at the heads and feet of each. Kalydin decided that, now that they were in the middle of the crypt, to detect magic in the area. He found a cloak and pair of boots that lit up but so did the cat, which offered a soft mew in response to the revelation.

Sam and Oryim decided that this cat was to be trusted and named the critter "Tomb-stone Pete" or "TP" for short. Kalydin and Liaden were less sure of it however. As they continued to travel, leaving the mausoleum behind and donning their newly acquired clothes, Oryim with the cloak and Sam with the boots, they found a spot to rest for the night before making their final stretch to Lakewood. Upon waking, Oryim began to hear a voice. It claimed to be one 'Ond Siltong' the original bearer of the cloak. Oryim asked why he was in a cloak, to which he responded 'To get away from that blasted cat.' The cloak eventually agreed that it would be beter to be used than to rot away in a crypt, and that he would offer Oryim pointers on how to use him best.

Before long the party arrived and restocked their supplies in Lakewood, taking the opportunity to do some window shopping and sell some of their less necessary belongings. By the end of the day they were prepared to journey further and make the last kleg of their journey to Silvaantar.

The path through the silverwoods went smoothly, as Liaden was able to guide our heroes through the path she knew best. Though anxious thoughts began to mount in Liaden, as she had not been home for some time and had not seen her love in that time either. Would everything be the same? Would things be too different? Her pondering was interrupted however, by a scout who called them to halt. They aproached and asked the party what their business was. Liaden explained that she was returning home from abroad, and explained that the others were here as her guests. Begrudgingly, the scout accepted this and escorted them into town.

They were taken to the home of the nearest council-member, an elderly elven gentleman known as Middyr. The old elf recognised Liaden imediately and embraced her, welcoming her home. The scout was given leave while the two Silvaantar natives caught up and discussed what had happened since Liaden left.

Middyr explained that, a few weeks ago, some intruders came through and damaged some of their gardens. and that the council were on high alert. He also informed Liaden that her aunt and uncle had passed away a few months ago, and that her cousin had been acting strange ever since. Speaking of things like revolution, and attempting to militarise the council and rangers in opposition of the Lakewood loggers, an issue which had been sorted years ago. Middyr finished by saying that he was leaving the council, he was getting far too old for politics and would soon be making his final journey to his eternal rest.

Liaden, took this information in and looked sombre for a moment. Her aunt and uncle were close to her, and their loss left a pain within her. Middyr asked why they had returned and if Liaden had found a solution to their problem. She replied that she hadn't yet, but she needed to speak with someone regarding a very serious issue. She explained that her soul was being held captive the the Elder Beings within the dreamlands, and that the old lady that lived on the outskirts may be able to help them. Middyr seemed skeptical, claiming that he did not trust the woman known as Melina. He warned Liaden to be wary, as he believed she was not what she seemed.

Before the party could depart, Middyr asked if they would please help calm down Liaden's cousin. He was not himself at the moment and his ideas were becoming increasingly radical. He told them of an alchemist who had come to town recently, and that he may be able to help. Like Liaden, he was a calmer head and a voice of reason in a time full of turmoil, a train that Middyr values in both the alchemist and Liaden alike. Our heroes agreed to investigate, provided Oryim and Liaden don't go insane before they can get to the bottom of things.
