Session 13

With our heroes face-to-face with the Mistress again, they were stunned into silence. Before any of them found the words to speak, she made a request. She made it plain that she wanted to speak with Rakroth privately before discussing things with the party. As The mistress and Rakroth closed the door behind them, Oryim listened in at the door to try and follow the conversation.

He found that he could make out no words, until hearing Rakroth blurt out "That is a baseless accusation!" The room fell into silence again, as they grew tense at what the possible outcome would be. As the door opened, signalling that their conversation was over, Rakroth shuffled out of the room with a haunted look on his face.

The Mistress ushered the party in, asking them to sit opposite and requesting a cup of tea from Rakroth. With tea in hand, she took a sip and shut the door to begin. The discussion was short, with only one real key point being made: The Mistress knew something was wrong in Fatoris. She had seen unfamiliar faces and knew that things weren't as they seemed. Liaden O'Legal asked why she didn't act, to which she responded that as a public figure with authority she must abide by her own rules. If she didn't it would lead to a dangerous slope into civil unrest.

Begrudgingly accepting this result, the party decided not to press much more, instead letting the Mistress continue speaking. She offered them a deal. She would grant them "certain freedoms" with the potential of legal leniency in court if they continued to conduct their "private investigations." The only stipulation were that they could not wantonly break Fatoran law. The Mistress explained that the writ was being drafted as they spoke and would arrive at their lodgings within the day.

With the one sided conversation concluded, the party deliberated over their next move. They decided that their first course of action should be to convince Wilma that they needed to stop their clandestine midnight meetings and come clean about working to their parents. They thought about what angle they should apprach this from when Kalydin suggested sending Seraph in alone to act as a guardian angel. This idea was met with a generally positive vibe and so they summoned the angelic companion and briefed him on the plan, aptly titled "Operation: Weeping Angel."

Seraph was initially unwilling to lie to the girl, but was convinced that he wouldn't be lying if he simply stated facts and that he was worried about the young woman. He agreed and made his way into her room, waking her from her slumber with a deep booming voice. While there were times in his speech that he wavered, the girls drowsiness lead her to believe that the divine truly thought she was making the wrong move. After Seraph's tyrade was complete, all that was heard from Wilma's room was sobbing, as the girl burst into tears.

Seraph, thinking he had taken things too far, consoled her, telling her it wasnt her fault. That it was the adults that manipulated her that were at fault. Seraph helped Wilma out of her room and down the stairs, where she sat down to speak with her parents, Rakroth and Cassandra. The party, sensing that they should probably give them space, waited in the sitting oom while the family talked at length.

Small parts of the conversation were heard, despite none of them trying to hear. Wilma apologised, and came clean saying that she felt so stifled by her surroundings. Her mother expressed her concerns while Rakroth made them tea. As the family meeting concluded, Rakroth approached the party saying that he would be unable to come in to work today, as he felt he should spend it with his family.

The party understood, and Liaden asked if they could ask Wilma a few questions. Rakroth said that they could, but not today. Wilma needed time to process her feelings and they needed time as a family. Liaden pressed a little more, but Rakroth stood his ground, asking her not as an employee but as a friend, as the party's debt to him had been payed.

Sam Calas took the initiative and left, feeling a strange cocktail of emotions inside himself. He felt relief that they had saved an innocent young person from being indoctrinated into a cult, but anger that this could be the latest in a string. The party took the opportunity to tell their other lawyers to take the day off, a gesture that Xaboldend took gratefully explaining that he could meet many fine women in the tavern over drinks.

The party took the dwarf outside and explained that he was doing a very poor job of trying to find someone to settle down with. They also explained that Thohillodin had eyes for him, a fact that he refused to believe. So the party told him that if he simply asked her on a date, she would likely say yes. So he did, by barging in and calling out across the room to ask her out for dinner. The room went silent as Thohillodin went pink from embarrassment then red with anger. She stormed across the room and left a hand print across his face calling him an ass before storming out.

Xaboldend was in shock, unable to create words holding his cheek. The party told him that he was, indeed, an ass and needed to apologise to Thohillodin immediately. So Xaboldend left in search of the dwarven woman leaving the party, Rohakarth and Erof in their office. Rohakarth said he would spend the day with his Wife after that display and Erof simply looked confused. Oryim encouraged her to do her hobbies, to which Erof responded that he had none. Her life was her work. Sensing that she must be great fun at parties, Sam encouraged her to find hobbies, or get a cat. Dejected, Erof left to persue some kind of time sink.

With little else to do with their day, the party did what all adventurers do when posed with nothing to do; they went day drinking. They decided to start their bar hopping at the Filthy Ore, where they ran into Thohillodin. She was already a couple of drinks deep, so our heroes decided they needed to catch up. They spoke to her about what had happened and she wondered if she had done the right thing. Liaden reassured her that she had, in fact, made the perfect move. and that if he didn't apologise, he wasn't worth fretting over. Shortly after the pep-talk, Xaboldend burst through the door panting.

He claimed to have checked every bar in Fatoris looking for Thohillodin so he could apologise and begging for another chance. Thohillodin said she wasn't sure if he should get one, because of how he spoke about women and spoke to her earlier. forlorn, Xaboldend asked if there was ever a chance that something may happen, to which she responded that it could, but he would have to treat her with the respect she deserved and that they would have to start again from scratch in order to first become friends before anything more could blossom.

Sensing it was time to leave, he did. Leaving Thohillodin to enjoy the rest of the day drinking along side our heroes who congratulated her for her bravery. Time flew as they drank and, before they knew it, it was late in the evening. Thus our heroes went on their merry way back to the Gatehouse where the MIstress' writ was waiting.

The following day they started at Rakroth's house, intent on questioning WIlma about her experience and what she knew. She divulged everything that she could, including the gift she was given. It was a necklace that, when a certain phrase was spoken, would project an illusion changing the wearer's appearance. Kalydin tested it out, finding that it did exactly that leaving our heroes with even more questions left unanswered.
