The Jubilation of the Star of Juruun

Each year during the month of the Dark Night, when the Fallen are said to be the closest to breaking through the veil that separates the Middle lands from the Lower Lands, the Star of Juruun can be seen in the night sky reminding all to keep the faith and have courage that the Risen will protect them and keep the Fallen locked away. The Star of Juruun is a comet that reaches it's brightest peak during the darkest of the winter months, the Dark Night. It is said that the Star is a reminder from the Risen, and particularly, Juruun, the goddess of Courage that even during the times of greatest darkness, that fear and evil can be overcome with courage and faith.

Components and tools

The Jubilation is celebrated in many different ways, but the most common of which is the re-enactment of the story of Huron Half-elf. Several versions of the story have been written, and so variations exist across the the Middle Lands, but all of them include the actress playing Huron Half-elf, gaining courage and facing the fallen, and defeating them. The part of Huron is most coveted by many of the young women of a community, as are the roles of Huron's family. The production is usually overseen by a member of the Church of Light, but in smaller communities, that role is given to a respected community elder. At the conclusion of the play, one member of the community is presented with the wooden sword that was used by Huron for an act of courage that they performed during the prior year. This wooden sword is considered a great honor, and the name of the recipient is carved into it, and the sword takes a place of honor usually over their mantel.

As part of the celebrations, many bright and cheery dishes are prepared, especially those that are reminiscent of the longer days of summer. Included in many of those feasts are Winter Elderberry scones which are shaped like the Star of Juruun.
