The Winter Salmon's New Years Resolutions 2024

Ten Articles

Y'greth Vane by "MKHETH II"   I was drawn in by the worlds cover art, the front page layout and designs of each article is very appealing. The article itself was great! I really like how much character growth there was, both financially and morally. Especially because it wasn't her abandoning her teachings for a "friendlier magic", but using what she had learnt for the betterment of others. The article was well written and straight forward, overall a great read
Anatomy of a Vampire by Twoauthors   First thing that caught my eye was the amazing art cover art. I was hooked from the very first paragraph when the author writes: "It's said a vampire is a creature born of two hearts. It's also said they are creatures of heartache and are born when one of those hearts dies. Perhaps this is why to become a vampire one must carry the pain of loss with them, the loss of a child, a twin, a lover so dear to them that the thought of living without them is too much to bear. " I thought was an really unique take on it. The rest of the article was really detailed, and I really liked the idea of Cedar Grove
JemJem by Kittymonster   I love animals a lot, so I was pretty excited about this article once I saw what it was about. It's very well designed, gives off comfy vibes, and I really liked everything about its layout. The way the author puts so much focus on the personality and mannerisms of the cat, it's way of speaking and quirks, is really nice because it makes it easier to visualize, and adds a lot of character.
Types of Magic by EBelt   I like the idea of magic users having an opportunity to express their thoughts on different types of magic that are used, and explain why the other forms are subpar to their system of choice. I liked how the examples were given in a "man on the street" style because it gives insight to the general opinions and personalities of those on the different sides of the issue.
Valos Adrah by Orphidor   This character based article really blew me away with the additional Moodboards and theme-songs included. It instantly made the article fun. I had a hard time choosing which of the characters which had this feature, but I chose Valos Adrah because of the morals and philosophy section. Thought it was a good outlook on the world.
Kingdom of Ironpeak by Forlornhope45   This is a really great article. It's detailed, realistic, and I really like it. I thought the "Motto" being in their common tongue was a nice touch. I also like how the author wrote the Major settlements in a way where it feels more personal, like I'm entering these areas and not reading about them from afar. Excellent work!
Austin Bart Simmons by RealmsDM   I really liked this character and the story around him. I like how realistic he felt, with the vibes of someone you'd find in an old western song. I like how family oriented he was through the story, leaving his farm and later gang because of that, and the articles ending was perfect.
The Death of Garagt by Darth Halford   It was a very fun read. I really liked how open ended the story was. I thought it was interesting that is spread as quickly as it did, and how everyone is free to add their own creative spin to the tale.
Crafting - Fishing by Quayzar   I really like how the author made a homebrew activity, that looks easy to use in game. It's really something that adds a lot to the immersion, and it feels like I'd want to use, especially when someone has to run an errand mid session. I really like how there was different examples of equipment from different races, the possibility of players designing their own based on their races, and a Challenge Rating for the fish being caught was well thought out.
A recap of 2023
Overall I had a decent year, all things considered. I've been off and on with WorldAnvil since I first signed up for it, and luckily I returned just in time for SummerCamp. My schedule was crazy last summer so I found myself frantically typing on my phone during my breaks at work, and then editing the half ideas I had when I got home, and writing late into the night.
As I got more accustomed to my schedule, I planned to truly dedicate myself to writing and worldbuilding. Life never goes as smoothly as I'd like it to, and time went by faster than I could have imagined. Didn't help that I had a false start with a world between the last one I worked on, and this one I'm on now. When Christmas was around the corner, work got too busy for me to focus in and write. Baldurs Gate also didn't help with that.
My Self Improvement Resolutions
  • I'm going challenge myself to do writing exercises on my days off every week, starting this Wednesday. I want to really start using my manuscripts to help practice.
  • I want to be more active within the WorldAnvil community, and I want to push myself to being more open and confident when talking to others, despite me being the way I am.
  • Before the end of 2024 I want to make an attempt at a post-modern, or a futuristic world.
5 Additional Resolutions
  • Add art when making articles, especially for characters.
  • When designing settlements I need to start adding unique buildings.
  • Add more animal companions, and encounters when writing.
  • Make lore reasons why people would choose certain magics over the others, and different martial techniques.
  • Make my worlds more inclusive by adding homebrew material, and downtime activities.
